After making sure M/n and the kittens are comfortable and sleeping peacefully, Neuvillette leaves Clorinde to watch over them and immediately leaves the mansion that night. He quickly makes his way to Palais Mermonia to see if he can find the documents or any information on Kline and the case. Though he remembers that trail he also remembers being distracted due to his personal affairs at the same time.
It was a bit of a shock to see Neuvillette suddenly appear at such a late hour to return to his office. The guards greeted him and asked no questions as the hydro dragon nearly rushed by to get to his office. He throws the door open quickly closes it back and gets to work. "Hm, this case happened three years ago...Where to start.."He sighs heavily as he starts to pull books and files down from their place and drop them on his desk. Not once did he expect to be doing work this late at night but here he was.
However, he didn't know that his sudden return to Palais Mermonia would be relayed to Furina herself and without warning she saunters in flamboyantly. "My oh my! Our darling Chief Justice couldn't stay away forever I see!"
"Not now, busy."
"Well duh, you're back in your office so why wouldn't you be?"Neuvillette slams a book down on his desk with his lips drawn in a thin line. "Furina, for once would you take something seriously."His tone was blunt and oozed annoyance with the woman in front of him. Furina huffed at this, what had gotten into the man she grew up with? Why was he so difficult to understand now? "What's wrong with you all of a sudden?"
"There's nothing wrong with me, Furina. If anything I just learned something about a certain case from three years ago that I wasn't very informed of."
"What are you talking about?"Neuvillette explains what M/n said to him about how the races take place and the natural occurrences that are bound to happen due to man-made alterations. "There is no evidence that he didn't plan that! How did happen just as M/n swims over it!?"
"Furina! It could have happened to anyone, M/n was just unlucky enough that it was him. Kline probably tried to secure the flow but accidentally made it worse by blocking it! Humans make mistakes and sometimes dangerous things happen. And yet you jumped so far with your speculations that you got an innocent human locked away and he took his own life!"Lightning strikes outside startling both Neuvillette and Furina, there was a thunderstorm raging outside. "He... He's dead?!"
"This information was kept from the public, only relatives and friends knew this. M/n was a close friend of Kline...Your misjudgment turned the public against him for no reason...M/n and Wriothesley were actively trying to appeal the charges... Furina..Where are the appeal papers?"Neuvillette asked sternly, that was one thing that struck him to be odd. Normally he'd read the papers himself and talk them over with Furina but he couldn't find them anywhere in the files.
She shuffles a bit as the loud thumping of rain pelts the winds behind the angered Hydro dragon. "Furina."
"I-I don't know! The day the appeals came through you were going through so much with Mademoiselle Rhodeia! So I took the paperwork to my office but I...I couldn't find them after that..."The storm rages even more after hearing the reason, Neuvillette is in shock from this! It furthered his rage and sorrow. "Dear Archons...That man... Kline. I must apologize to everyone who was affected by his passing, you must as well. You caused this with your assumptions...I need to return home immediately, I'm sure the storm woke them."

Neuvillette was happy to be wrong when he returned Clorinde said that the four slept through everything while snuggling the otter plushie. He even went in to check on them himself. Lately M/n and his kittens have been a great source of comfort for him. He felt silly but he didn't want to be alone in his room, so he sheepishly woke M/n up to ask a question. "Mmh it's late, why are you awake?"
"I–I... I'm having a bit of trouble and—"
"I get it, come on. Make yourself comfortable. I hope you don't mind the little paws that might kick you while you sleep."
"I don't mind at all.."Neuvillette shyly lies next to the four as M/n drifts back to sleep, as if the hydro dragon didn't wake him up to begin with but even through his haze he understood that something was weighing heavy on Neuvillette's mind. "Thank you so much, M/n."
