ELAENA TARGARYEN
__________________________________________
THE DAYS WERE tense between the royals, the family didn't know who to speak to and who to not, Elaena or Daemon? it was hard to choose between the two, so they settled into the middle.
"Tell your sister that letters are awaiting her," Daemon said softly at the dinner table, he spoke to Baela but his eyes were on Elaena, who stared at the table.
Baela sighed, "Elaena, father said-"
"Tell Father, you are not his messenger boy." Elaena snapped, the knife she was clenching now splintering the wooden table as it stood in the candlelight. "I have lost my appetite, may I be excused?"
Before either Rhaenyra or Daemon could answer, the noise of a scraping chair and hasty footsteps had sounded the hall leaving a tense silence, to which Daemon broke with a hefty sigh.
He stood with a notion in mind to speak with her and to set things straight once more, but Rhaena intercepted him with soft words, "I believe Father, it shall cause more tension instead of a reconciliation."
He breathed deeply through his nose before speaking, "One of you may follow her, please." he had asked softly, as a brunette stood then and slowly walked out of the room following the steps of the irate girl.
he had found her by the grand doors of the castle, slouched and bleak as she stared into the starry sky, he slowly approached before he spoke softly "Elaena?"
"Leave me be, Jacaerys," she whispered, sighing deeply as he sat beside her stubbornly, "no," he shrugged, "I've spoken to all our sisters but you."
a sharp look was sent toward him as she said coldly, "I am not your sister." bitterly, she thought; the cheek of the child! To assume we are kin because my father married his mother.
Jacaerys stilled at the scathing look, he'd never witnessed such hostility towards himself since his days within the red keep, yet this was a first as it was from a girl!
"I... I just wanted to see if you were okay," he decided to whisper lightly, his hands folded in his lap as he held them tightly. "I always like some company if I'm feeling down,"
her violet eyes glanced at him, "Yes, I suppose we are both down as of this moment." his head shot up at the warmer tone she had used, "We have both lost strong figures in our lives and have been pushed upon each other by our remaining parents, we hadn't yet mourned."
he bit the skin on his lip, "I won't say sorry, because that doesn't help. but I will say, it does get better. wounds do heal, even one's as large as a mother or in my case, father."
Elaena remained quiet as she pondered his words before standing and offering her hand, to which he looked baffled, "Come on, I see you getting teary-eyed. I want to show you something."
Confused -and a slight bit frightened- he took her awaiting hand, their palms enclosed together as she roughly tugged him along, to which he muttered a quiet ouch as he tripped over his feet.
she snorted quietly, this is the heir to the heir? We are doomed. she had thought to herself as they broke through the forest line towards the dragon mount.
"Dōna valītsos, skoriot issi ao?" She called, the ancient language flowing seamlessly from her tongue as Jacaerys listened bitterly before asking quietly, "What did you say?"
"I called for my sweet boy," Elaena said simply, stopping in her place as she felt a gust of harsh wind, "can you not speak Valyrian?"
bashfully, he ducked his red-tinged face "I'm trying to learn, but it is confusing I have to admit." Elaena's brows furrowed before she squeezed his hand within hers, "I'll learn you, it's easier learning from someone rather than books."
He gasped, his face lit with muted happiness "You will?" and she nodded, pressing a finger to her lips, "hush now, he's coming."
"Who?"
a smile blossomed upon her face, a smile that had his face tinged red.
A large rumbling sound and a whoosh of air greeted them, as a loud thump landed in front of them, hot air being blown into their faces with soft exhales.
"Hello, beautiful boy." Elaena cooed, her hands raising to caress the roughed and dented scales, the warmth licking her palms as he leaned into her touch, "This is Jacaerys, he's a...friend, be nice."
a soundless exhale came from the beast, as its head cocked and stared at the squeaking boy; this was the largest dragon he has seen! It was larger than both his mother's and daemon's dragon.
she giggled wrapping her arms around its thick, spiked neck and pressing her flushed cheek against its heated scales, the dragon letting out a series of purrs.
"Would you like to fly, Jacaerys?" Elaena questioned the silent boy as he stared at the dragon with wide eyes.
The face of almost a snakelike creature, horns like an ox, spiked mane of a sea snake. Claws like scythes and veined, spiked wings with a tail ending in a battle-sword-shaped spike, seemingly able to pierce through anything.
"He doesn't bite unless I tell him to." She grinned, The silver scales parted as the dragon's face broke out in a wide grin. If you've never seen a dragon smile, it's a sight to behold, well worth your while.
A powerful alliance was formed that day between the two almost man and woman grown, as together they and the dragon walked out of the forest and into the crisp darkening night air.
There was a twinkle in her dragon's eye as he offered his wings to the two, who mounted with ease, the boy grappling the girl's waist with a vice grip and they flew away. They took off into the endless night sky and the castle behind them waved goodbye.
As they soared over the star shone covered mountains and the forest down below, Elaena thought, never hesitate to dry a dragon's tears and to allow a dragon to dry yours.
That day the three of them learned a lesson about boldness in fear, and they let it carry them up above the clouds and into the world beyond.
a lesson showing, that perhaps just because you need to be strong does not mean you need to be alone.
Perhaps, there were changes in the air conditioning them as they flew hazardously; the dragon twisting them upside down, diving and pulling up just to hear the fearful shouts and elated laughs of the two once strangers now friends.
