Mrs. Casanova was yelling profanities at her daughter's principal.
"How the hell can you lose a kid in a span of ten minutes?" Mrs. Casanova's cheeks were tainted red and there was a storm brewing in her chocolate brown eyes. "She was there at breakfast, and then your idiot self didn't think of doing roll call right after breakfast!"
Mr. Willow tried to calm the raging mother, but he knew that he would be the same. He would be cursing out the principal who lost his child, so rather than calming down Mrs. Casanova, he sat in his desk chair and threw her words out of the window.
She needed to blow out some steam, anyways.
"Daniel, if this is a way to get back at me after what James did, I swear to god-." Mrs. Casanova's words were halted by Mr. Willow.
Mr. Willow's head snapped up to his ex-bestfriend's widow. He couldn't believe that Constance would think such a thing. Sure, James had betrayed him in some ways, but he would never loose his child because of what he did.
It was James' problem, not his children.
"Connie, if you think I would do such a thing, then you don't know me at all. Although James and I weren't on good terms when Nina was born, James let me see her time to time. I treated her like my own child." Mr. Willow's voice was harden around the edges which Connie knew all too well. He was pissed; a rare occasion.
But, the news that James had let Daniel see Nina made her heart swarm. She knew how James was sadden about Daniel's rejection of their friendship, but now she knows that Daniel and James were at least trying to be civil.
Connie sighed, her shoulders sagging forward. She felt defeated as if Nina would never come home. Jamie has been asking for her and Connie had to lie to her youngest daughter. Jamie may have been fifteen and thought like she didn't need her older sister, but Connie knew that her daughter needed Nina.
Nina was the one who inherited James' ways. The tender loving care that she had for everyone and how she could always make someone smile. But, Jamie had inherited Connie's ways. The quiet reserved love she had for a selective few and how she kept away from most everyone.
Connie sat down in the plush, red chair that was in front of Daniel's desk. Daniel observed how Connie looked so tired and he knew that she had so much burden put on her shoulders. Being a single mother of two daughters were hard, but when one of those daughters was missing, it was even harder. "I've been calling her, but she hasn't answered. And I know Nina; she always has her phone. I feel like she's ignoring me."
"Connie." Connie's name felt foreign on Daniel's tongue. It's been a long time since he even saw her and he hated how he was in the past. But, the idea that was sprouting in his mind may have been the reason why Nina was ignoring her mother. "They went to Los Angeles, where James was buried. Nina barely knew her father, so she's probably visiting him."
