Harry's first birthday party with the Malfoys was spectacular, as was the one after and now on his 9th birthday all he felt was dread. Theo had stayed with them after Harry's first yule ball. When they were 8 his aunt dragged him off to Paris to be a proper man. Theo would be joing them for festivities of course but Harry could only focus on one thing. The news clippings on the wall.

Horace Slughorn  submitted memories of Dumbledore not only feeding him strong compulsions but forcing him to nudge a poor orphan into becoming the dark lord. After that new memories came in all the time. It slowed the trials considerably.
