III: HaHaHaHaHa
'A sudden handshake? What's on your mind, Park Chaeyoung!? ' thought Jennie.
The minutes passed and Chaeyoung did not let go of the young brunette's hand, Chahee and Ho-yeon began to laugh at the situation. Embarrassed, Jennie removed her hand as soon as she saw her friends. "W-what's the matter with you!!" "What the hell!" snickered Chahee, "Chaeyoung-ah, you're so funny!" added Ho-yeon. "What?! Jennie, are you blushing??" "I am not, duh!" "Don't be shy!!"
The little quarrel between the three friends continued until Jennie turned her attention to the young blonde looking at her. Looking sad, Chaeyoung stares at Jennie, points her finger at her, and then joins her hands together, she smiles optimistically. Unfortunately, the young brunette does not understand the message of the blonde and feels threatened by her ignorance.
"Let's go, she's creeping me out," the cat-eyed girl says, throwing the blonde's communication notebook back. The notebook lands in the pond and floats over the water. "Oh, it got in! It got in!" cheered the girls.
*SPLASH*
The girls turn around hearing the noise, Chaeyoung had jumped into the dirty pond to find his communication notebook. "No shit! She's so dirty!!" said Jennie before turning away and starting to walk again, Chahee and Ho-yeon glanced at the blonde before walking away to catch up with the brunette.
Time skips (we're still in the flashback*)
It's a new day in Gyeonggi province, every day is crucial for Jennie, she does not like boredom and tries to fight it every day. With her favorite distraction, she spends her time during Mr.Choi's geometry lesson screaming in Chaeyoung's ears. She mocks the young blonde by making rude jokes about the hearing impaired, which makes some of her classmates laugh.
'We had a great time every day. Merry friends and the merry Chaeyoungalien' thought Jennie.
The new hobby that Jennie prefers above all, more than screaming in the ears of the blonde is to tear her hearing aid and destroy them in multiple ways. Walking on them, throwing them by the window, throwing them up the school roof, etc.
'Life was great.'
"Today, instead of having our combined classroom time, we're going to discuss something important with all of you," announced Professor Choi. "First, a word from the principal." "It's about your classmate Park Chaeyoung, who has taken today off," started the principal gathering the attention of the sixth graders in the room.
"We got a call from her mother yesterday, in just five months, eight of her hearing aids have either gone missing or have been broken...She wondered if her girl was being bullied at school...If anyone knows how this happened, please raise your hand." the middle-aged man said.
Each of the students reacted in their own way, Ho-yeon and Irene looked at each other and looked down at once, Chahee had a smirk on his lips, Gwan-hee looked determined, and Jennie began to sweat and shake.
"All together, they would cost 22,776,767 KRW (17,000 USD). Hearing aids are costly, and since you're all children, you won't be able to pay. If someone turns himself in right now, the school will handle it. Your parents won't have to get involved..." the principal added.
Hearing the amount to be repaid, Jennie's heart stops, she thinks of her mother and their little hair saloon who makes just enough to pay the rent, bills, and food. There was only her and her mother as a family, her father had left with another woman and her grandparents had not called back since her mother had fled the family home, pregnant with Jennie at the time. "If we don't know who it is, then we'll have to leave the investigation to the police." Dry throat, sweaty hands, pale as a cloth, Jennie with her trembling hands began to raise her hand when Mr. Choi cut her in action.
