Sniper x Reader ~Instant Crush~

CHAPTER 5

     (Y/N) had found enough ingredients to make a small batch of soup for the two. It would keep them warm through the night. The stove wouldn't work without the generator, and so she had Sniper go and get firewood for the fireplace. While she rummaged Pyro's room for lighter fluid and matches. There was already a pot holder in the fireplace, she gathered her ingredients and put them into a small pot, before returning to the fireplace in the recreational room.

     Just as (Y/N) had found what she was searching for in Pyro's room, Sniper returned, covered in the powdery snow from outside. He placed the chopped logs in the small cavern, before they set it alight.

     "While it cooks, let's figure out our sleeping situation. It's not safe to just sleep in one of those beds, ya freeze, even in multiple layers of clothes.... Speakin' of which, let's get winter clothes from the rooms." The man spoke, setting his hat on the ground.

     "I've got an idea sugar." (Y/N) spoke, while dressing herself into Engie's winter apparel.

     "What if we take two mattresses, line 'em up, and take all the blankets and compile 'em? We could be right next to the fireplace and keep warm all night." She suggested, throwing a third sweater on herself. He thought for a moment, but agreed.

     "I'll get the mattresses, sheila. You go on ahead and get all the blankets. Don't forget pillows." And they were set on their task. The sniper set towards the best mattress in every base. Heavy's. He would always get the biggest down bed, no matter what. So he takes himself with hauling it down the hallway. He had made sure to tuck the pillows into the sheet on the bed, to take one task off of (Y/N).

     The little engineer grabbed the largest blanket she could find and stuffed all the pillows onto it before tying it up, and grabbing the blankets from every mercenaries room. Noticing all of Heavy's things were gone, she figured Sniper had taken them. She returned to the recreational room, dragging everything in tow, where she met sniper, setting up the mattress with the pillows towards the fire.

     (Y/N) silently dropped the blankets and pillows down right next to the makeshift bed. Red, white, and a fleshy colored grey littered the floor beneath her as she looked to the sniper. The man stared at the fire, giving her time to marvel at him. He was roughened up, shaken from what happened. His blue eyes looked sunken. Tan skin glimmering in the light of the fire.

     "Ya just gonna stare at me 'til I help? Could've just asked, sheila."

     Her (e/c) eyes shot wide open, and she quickly busied herself making a pillow divider on the massive bed.

     "Come on Dell, let's get Miss Pauling to help. Where's your pager?" The soldier and engineer were still seated in his room.

     "Second drawer, Solly." The device was drawn out and flipped on. The helmeted man mumbled to himself, tapping at the thick screen. He turned a knob on the side, and a dial tone shrilled out.

     "It's ringing." He spoke softly, handing it over to engie. His ashen, clammy hands grasped at the poor machine, like he was holding on for dear life, until a click rang through.

     "Hey- Engie? You called?" Mrs Paulings shaken voice crackled through the small speaker as she appeared on the screen.

     "Yeah, We have a problem..." He started, His voice wavering with emotion. "(Y/N) and the Sniper are gone."

     "Ohhh no. No no no. Okay. We can fix this. What happened?"

     "They died during our mission today, pretty normal, right? But nobody saw them leave the respawn chamber. I checked on it, and it's fine, not a single malfunction or anything! We searched all perimeters and everything but found nobody-" The worried man ranted and rambled on to the woman on screen. He didn't stop until the Soldier placed his hand firmly upon his shoulder, taking the pager.

     "Mrs. Pauling- What do we do?" Soldier spoke softly to her.

     "We'll figure this out. I'll have to call off your guy's missions for a while, robots are low on stock. But I promise, I'll find them." She pushed her glasses up her nose while brainstorming.

     "Thank you. Keep me updated please."

     The soup (Y/N) made was a little bland, but it would keep the two warm and fed. They sat wrapped in thick woolen blankets on their makeshift bed. Cards perched on hand.

     "I reckon we call it for the night. Need energy for tomorrow's work, eh?" His cards were set face down, the Snipers face was looking a quite bit droopy with sleep.

     "Yeah, alright. Help me kill down the fire a bit?" While they didn't completely put it out, they left the flames at a safe height to keep running in the night.

     (Y/N) laid there, the dying flickers of fire tickling her face which was snug in piles of clothes and blankets. Soft breathing coming from the pile next to her. She stared at the ceiling, thinking. What would happen to them if they can't get out? Would she be able to see Dell again? Would she and the Aussie next to her ever speak past their time trapped here? What would-

     "Sheila... You're hyperventilating. Ya alright?" That voice- Oh my, that voice.

     "Im just thinkin'. What if we can't make it out. Im scared."

     "Sheila, you've found a way, try it, and if it doesn't work, we find a backup idea. We'll be alright." The woman gave a meek acknowledgment, turning her gaze back to the ceiling.

     "Goodnight, sugar." She spoke

     "It's Mick- Call me Mick."

     (Y/N) was a little shocked, out of nowhere, he gave this. "I like that name... Why did you tell me?" His voice- (Y/N) couldn't get off the idea of his smooth voice.

     "Think ya might get tired of the nicknames." He said, looking over to her. His eyes were a gorgeous color in the dying light of the flames. "It's also easier to say."

     "Thank you, Mick. Your name suits you." The eye contact felt special, connected beyond words. She laid her head on the pillow divider and placed her hand over it too. "Goodnight Mick." He grasped her hand and rested back down, staring with affection pouring from his eyes.

     "G'night (Y/N)"
