1 : Dear Mom

"Why are you like this?" echoes my mother's voice,
Her words hang heavy, a looming cloud, a weighted choice.
I don't even know why I am the way I am,
Maybe I've grown to embrace my own reflection,
Or perhaps it's you who can't see past your own perception.

Maybe it's you who struggles to love the daughter you bore,
Or perhaps you've forgotten who I was before.
I am your flesh and blood, your child, your kin,
Yet it feels like I'm a stranger, an outsider looking in.

You question my actions, my thoughts, my ways,
But have you ever questioned your own gaze?
I understand your life has known harder days,
And I yearn for your wisdom, your guidance, your praise.

In the whirlwind of adolescence, my life unfurls,
Through a kaleidoscope of emotions, a spectrum of colors swirls.
Why can't you see the changes, the growth, the tender curls?
Can't you see your little girl navigating this big world?

I'm a teenager, life's complexities are hard to unfurl,
Each day a challenge, each lesson a pearl.
When you were 16, did you not face the same whirl?
Did you not dream, fear, love, and twirl?

We are more alike than you might believe,
Both navigating life, learning to perceive.
I am not the worst, nor do I deceive,
Just a young soul learning to live, to grieve.

So, let's bridge this distance, let's retrieve,
The bond we share, the love we weave.
For I am you, and you are me,
Together, we can set our misunderstandings free.
