I gazed out of the airplane window, filled with gratitude for living my dream life. Attending my ideal college and pursuing my passion for design felt like perfection. Little did I know what awaited me on this journey.
After five long months, I eagerly returned home during my college break, longing to reunite with my family, including my two younger siblings.
My heart leaped with joy as I heard my mother's voice, waving excitedly alongside my father. "Sara, look over here!" she exclaimed. Our reunion filled me with boundless happiness.
"Mom!" I cried out, "How are you?"
It had been ages since I'd seen them, and I cherished this moment. During our ride back home, we chatted about family gossips and my college experiences.
As we discussed my second year of college, I realised how quickly time had passed; I had just turned 20. Feeling a sense of nostalgia, I lamented, "I can't believe I'm growing up."
My parents chuckled, but something about their laughter and the way they spoke to me seemed off.
They wore forced, uneasy smiles, and an unsettling atmosphere lingered in the air.
"I wonder what's going on with them," I murmured thoughtfully.
"You're getting old, huh?" my mom whispered. I replied with a perplexed expression, "Well, not that old."
Nevertheless I ignored her to shift my focus to the breathtaking scenery outside. It was so peaceful . I closed my eyes and felt the breeze touching my face.
"It's wonderful!"
Upon arriving home, I indulged in my mom's homemade food, a long-awaited delight.
"This is everything I've been craving," I exclaimed in pure joy.
"Well, now you should learn how to cook," she remarked.
I retorted, "What do you mean by that? Why should I learn to cook when I can enjoy your delicious homemade meals?"
"Hmmm!" my mom murmured.
As the days passed, I sensed a growing tension between my parents and me. Summoning all my courage, I finally decided to broach the subject with them.
"Mom, Dad, can I have a word with you?"
"Of course, dear," my dad responded.
"Is everything all right? I've been feeling that ever since I arrived here, you both seem tense about something."
"It's nothing," my mom replied hesitantly.
"Is there something on your mind? It feels like there's something bothering you."
"Well, actually, yes," my parents admitted, and my heart raced like a bullet train. I could feel my body turn cold at that moment.
"What is it?" I asked anxiously.
They hesitated before dropping the bombshell: "We've arranged your marriage with my friend's son, and you'll be getting married to him next month."
I was too stunned to speak.
" Wait, what?" I said in a shaking voice.
