Ichigo had just gotten back from visiting his mother's grave. He was soaked to the bone because of the unexpected heavy rain that fell today. He couldn't handle the rain. Especially not today. He slowly dragged his feet as he climbed the stairs to his room. He didn't even bother taking a warm shower or changing to drier clothes and slumped on his mattress. He knew he'd soak the sheets because of his wet clothes but he couldn't think about any of that right now. He curled into a fetal position as the memories of his mother flashed through his mind.

"Mommy!.... Mommy!.... I won my Judo match!..."

"I saw.... I'm so proud of you, dear..."

"Mommy!... I can finally protect you now! ... Dad said my name means to protect one thing.... So I'll protect you...."

"My brave boy....I love you."

He always blushed whenever she praised him. It made him feel stronger. He loved his mother dearly and he still did. Her death was traumatizing.

"Mommy?.... That man is following us!...."

"Ichigo, dear.... Please stay here...cover your ears..... Don't come out.... Promise you won't come out..."

"Oi! Bitch!..."

He tugged on his orange hair tightly as he recalled that night his mother had died infront of him. She'd hidden him in a nearby bush before she was shot and pushed into the lake. It rained that night. It rained heavily.

He whimpered at the sound of the roaring thunder. He didn't hear the clicking of the front door or the hurried footsteps that climbed up the stairs. Orihime had closed work early so she could pay her respects to the late lady and Sora. She knew of how Ichigo got whenever this day came and rushed to his home. She recalled the first time she'd seen him cry when they were little. It was a rainy day like this and he was holed up in his room right after they visited his mother. She wanted to ask if he would have dinner but ended up hearing him whimpering and sobbing from the door. She immediately went in to comfort him. He had yelled at her and told her to get out but she didn't. She held him close to her tiny frame and he clutched unto her pyjama shirt like his life depended on it.
