POV: Ally (Riley)

I sat beside Nick. He was really beautiful for a guy. His blonde hair was trimmed skillfully and was nearly white. His skin was toned and clear and when he smiled, there were dimples. I turned away when I realized that I was staring.

But, I felt him looking at me after I turned away.

I looked ahead at the teacher. I shifted in my seat uncomfortably. Was it that he figured out that I'm a girl? No, it can't be possible.... I disguised myself well. I mean I know I did.

The teacher, Mrs. Wesley, was starting a lecture on U.S. History. I tried listening to her. Everything spoken was fairly simple, I guess, because it was all things that I already learned.

I yawned silently. I haven't been sleeping well recently. The newfound fact that I had an older brother kept me up late at night since Uncle told me. It made me wonder constantly what type of person he was.

I glanced at the clock. It felt like time was moving slower than ever. Her voice started to fade as my eyes became heavier and heavier. If this continues, I will fall asleep.

But I couldn't stop myself. My eyes finally closed completely.

"Darling, wake up."

"Mommy?" I said rubbing my eyes.

She was kneeling down beside my sleeping bag. I sat up. Even though the moon wasn't isn't in the sky, the thousands of stars shone brightly instead.

"Let's go on a walk," she said softly.

"But, I'm hungry, Mommy. My stomach hurts."

"I'm sorry, Ally. We don't have anything right now."

Her hand trembled as she held on mines.

"Why can't we go home? I'm cold."

"We don't have a home anymore," her voice cracked.

We don't?

Her smile was painful to look at. A single teardrop slipped down her cheeks. I've never seen her cry before and it startled me. I placed my hands on the side of her face.

"Don't cry, Mommy. It's alright. Remember what you told me? Everything will get better. It always does."

She pulled me toward her and hugged me tightly.

"Geez, this stupid world revolves only around wealth and greed. And I don't want to take any part in it, but here we are... We are here trapped right in the middle of it."
