The year was 1974, Japan.

Within the depths of a classified laboratory, Waldo Schaeffer, a brilliant computer scientist, stood at the forefront of an audacious endeavor known only to a select few. Alongside five other pioneering minds, he was entrusted with the task of launching Project Carthage's virtual world, a venture that promised to push the boundaries of human understanding and technological innovation.
Franz led a team of visionaries, each with their unique areas of expertise. Together, they were on a journey that held the potential to reshape the world as they knew it.

"We did it, everyone! The latest update has produced a noteworthy result – the dark zone we initiated just a month ago isn't floating around anymore, the sector I'm developing worked. There's a ring of platforms around it!" Waldo remarked with the measured tone of a scientist engaged in an intriguing experiment, his hands on the keyboard, typing endlessly.

The room was also a symphony of ceaseless activity. State-of-the-art mainframes flickered with the promise of a digital realm yet to be realized. Tangles of cables snaked across the floor, connecting machines that were the precursors to the technological marvels they aspired to create. Amidst the controlled chaos, Waldo hunched over a screen, fingers dancing over the keyboard, and lines of code scrolled across the screen. His task was simple: to forge a new reality, a virtual world that would exist parallel to their own, governed by the laws of digital physics he was painstakingly writing. He didn't know the purpose, but he knew his talent was needed for this top secret project.

Beside him, Dr. Barnes, the brilliant physicist, sketched designs and schematics on a whiteboard. His concepts for the scanners were mere blueprints on paper, dreams waiting to be born. With an air of anticipation, he envisioned a future where the barriers between the tangible and the digital could be traversed with ease.

Across the room, Dr. Viktor Kuznetsov, the cybernetics expert, experimented with interface prototypes. His creations were still in the embryonic stage, concepts of creating a form of protection in the virtual world itself, a sort of antivirus who would prevent corrupted data from breaching into their supercomputer.

Dr. Tyron, the artificial intelligence specialist, developed algorithms that would one day breathe life into the virtual beings that would inhabit their digital frontier. Lines of code were his brushstrokes, crafting the essence of artificial sentience.

And Dr. William Blackwood, the vigilant security specialist, ensured that their work remained shielded from prying eyes. In the shadows, he guarded their secrets like a sentinel, understanding that the ramifications of their research could reach far beyond their underground sanctuary.

Each line of code, each algorithm, and each theoretical discussion carried them closer to the vision they had set out to realize. As Waldo surveyed his team, he was acutely aware that Project Carthage was not just an experiment; it was the genesis of a new era. The digital frontier they were forging held the promise of limitless potential, but it also concealed unfathomable challenges and ethical dilemmas.

Unbeknownst to him, his work wasn't meant to be shared with the world, it was poised to lead them into dangerous territory where the future of the world was at stake. It wasn't until December of that very year that the first inklings of trouble surfaced. The higher-ups had chosen to part ways with Dr. Barnes, citing his prolonged pursuit of promising scanner results as the cause. Waldo remained perplexed by their desperatation regarding a way to go to the virtual world of, recently named "Exploratorio", yet he understood that questioning it was beyond his purview. Plus, in the wake of Dr. Barnes's departure, the team welcomed a new engineer into their fold: Anthea Hopper.

She assumed the mantle of lead scanner engineer, a mysterious newcomer to their enigmatic cabal. Anthea possessed a captivating allure, being extremely professional while mantaining a rather soft, endearing personality at the same time. But what struck him most profoundly was her unconventional appearance. Anthea's hair was a shocking shade of pink, a vibrant contrast to the subdued colors that permeated the white laboratory. Her eyes, docile and warm, hinted at a gentle disposition, yet they sparkled with an inner strength. An aura of quiet confidence enveloped her, as if she was a master of her craft.
