Chapter 4: New Friends and Farewells

      Adam was filled with fear and dread as his heart pounded with the force of a war drum. Adam grabbed Lunex and ran down into the cellar once more, locking it behind him once they were inside. A loud roar peirced the silence forest, followed by a resounding crash as its loud thud drew closer. Adam looked up at the cellar door with concern but then he heard a soft and familliar voice speak out. "Adam, Adam where are you?" A feminine voice called out. The mans heart skipped a beat as he held his breath. Lunex looked at Adam with fear in her eyes.

     Adam slowly reached for the cellar door to open it, but his hand was stopped by Lunex. "Adam, what are you doing? It's gonna get us if you open it."

    Adam looked at the little vampire, his face full of worry. "My wife is out there, I can hear her voice."

     Lunex looked at Adam with concern as she spoke. "Adam, there is nobody speaking."

     Adam heard a second voice call out this one just as soft but much more child like."Daddy, where are you? I'm scared, the monster might come back!" Lunexs held Adam's hand tightly, preventing him from opening the cellar.

     He wrestled his hand away from her he was about to open it. However, Lunex jumped up and bit him on the neck, bringing him to the ground as she had a face full of fear. "Adam, you told me they were dead. How can they be calling you?"

     Adam's eyes filled with tears. "I heard my daughter as well."

     Tears flowed down his cheeks as he heard them scream in pain. "ADAM, WHY DIDNT YOU SAVE US?! YOU SHOULD HAVE KILLED IT!" followed by loud a crunching noise. Violent flashes of memories of his wife being split in half by the beasts maw, and his daughters headless corpse flashed in his head.

    The screaming and sobbing continued in a child's voice "DADDY, WHY DIDN'T YOU HELP ME?! YOU WERE ALMOST HOME BUT YOU WERE A COWARD AND RAN AWAY WHILE IT ATE US!! NOW WE BELONG TO HIM!!" Lunex seeing Adam's grief knocked him out with a chop and covered him with a blanket as she stayed up all night waiting for the beast to leave.

     Late into morning lunex heard the sounds of a beast wailing then a loud thump, as black blood seeped into basement from the cellar door. Lunex smelt the foul smell of rot wafting from the blood. Despite the horrid smell, her thirst got the best of her as she drank it.

     Lunex steeled her nerves and opened the cellar door and walked outside, wading through a pool of black blood. She saw the surrounding forest had been burned to the ground and the wendigo had been mangled and beheaded.

     There she saw a tall, pale skinned man with very long black hair. He wore a black and red kimono with red roses playing the violin. As she was about to talk to him, but Adam stepped in front of her and kept her from approaching.

     Adam's face was filled with fear as he looked at the man. The man stopped playing the violin and turned around. He looked at Adam with a soft but Erie smile and spike in a soft tone "good morning sir, how are you feeling?"

     Adam gulped nervously "I-I'm alright, but more importantly who or what are you?"

     The mysteriousman chuckled. "My name is Qrow. I'm just a traveler of no esteem or notoriety."

     Adam stepped forward a bit and spoke in a shaky tone "do you have any idea what happend here at all? What happend to the wendigo and the forest?"

     Qrow simply gave a smile. "Oh, the wendigo tried to attack me but I managed to decapitate it. As for the forest, I have no idea I'm afraid."

     Adam stood silent before the sound of a twig breaking alerted everyone and out from the burnt forest emerged a large gang of about thirty or so bandits.

    Qrow turned to face them, and with a commanding voice called out to them
"What do you think you are doing here, scum!?"

     One bandit approached he was tall with long Grey hair, hazel eyes, and a scraggly beard. "We are here to rob you, dumbass! Now fork over everything you have, or we will gut you all like fish!"

     Adam redied his axe but Qrow held his hand out to block Adam from approaching.  Qrow held out his right hand summoning a massive black scythe, black tassels swaying in the wind. A large red gemstone that looked almost like a dragons eye lie embedded on its blade.

     Before the bandits could ready their weapon, Qrow engaged them in combat and with a single swing killed five. With each swing of the curved blade, Adam could swear he heard a ghostly wail which filled him with an unfamiliar dread. Qrow caught one in the stomach and slung them into three more. When he slammed the handle of his scythe into the ground, they instantly caught fire.

     One approached from behind and was going to run him through, but he disappeared and reappeared behind them. He ran them through and lunched them into the sky high above the trees and with a snap of his fingers, a bolt of lightning incinerated the bandit.

     Before he continued they all heard the sound of falling trees almost like whatever was coming was huge. A massive black wolf emerged and pounced on the rest of the bandits, killing them all.

     Adam backed up scared out of his mind "N-No, this can't be....that's a fenrir!" The 50ft tall wolf walked over to Qrow and started licking him. Qrow simply pet the fenrir on the snout calling him a good boy.

     Lunex walked over to the fenrir and started petting it "is it yours?" Said a very curious Lunex, earning a nod from Qrow.
A few hours later,crow was helping lunex control her magic, and in those few hours lunex had learned how to cast basic and intermediate level magic which impressed Qrow. He had never seen someone so young learn so fast.

     While they were practicing they heard a wolf howl, however the group just thought it was some wolves. The howls got closer and closer, causing the young fenrir to get up and get infront of them. It stood guard, ready to attack the potential threat.

    A few seconds later a man with short white hair and  beard had emurged. He wore a fur jacket and trousers, but no boots were seen. Only moments later did fourteen other individuals join him.

     "My name is Agnus, and I'm looking for my son Adam!" Said the man in a loud, commanding tone.

     Seconds later a giant brown wolf barreled out of the house. It snarled and ran and slit next to fenrir, almost as of it was protecting fenrir or Lunex who was behind him.

     "What are you doing here, father?" Spoke the wolf in an echoing tone. It's voice matching that of Adam's.

     Agnus cracked his neck "I'm here to take you home, son. We had a deal, I would let you leave and live on your home if you stayed out of trouble. However, after summerfell, not anymore. I'm sorry son, I truly am, but I'm not giving you a choice." Adam snarled but knew he couldn't resist.

     As Adam and Angus continued their talk Qrow stood up and turned around to stretch. He gave a smile that gave a sinister air, seemingly thinking to himself.

     Adam gave Lunex one last hug before walking over to Qrow. "Take care of her, okay? I don't trust you, but your the only person here who can."

     The mysterious man gave a simple nod as she turned. "You have my word" he replied. and soon after Adam transformed as did the rest of his family and they headed into the forest.

     Lunex looked up at Qrow and sniffled, tears streaming from her eyes. "Where are we gonna go now, Qrow?"

     Qrow knelt down and placed his hand on the top of her head. "I have a friend who is in Winterspire named Lilith. She's a monster hunter, but she can help you hone your strength and power."

     With sorrowful eyes, Lunex climbed onto fenrir, as did Qrow. With that, the two set off, beginning their trip to Winterspire.

The journey only took about half the normal travel time it normally took Lunex and Adam. Fenrir stayed out of the city as the  two headed inside in search of Lilith. The two quickly found a woman pulling a cart full of dead monsters of all kinds, the very same woman the young vampire caught a glimpse of her last trip here. All this while She was downing a pint of mead.
