THE GOLDEN GUARD

I sat on the Captain's desk, dwindling my leg as I kicked it back and forth, waiting. I looked over at the birdcage with the tarp I laid over it, hearing the little demon-creature-thing sleeping.

I then looked towards the wild witch, tied up in the corner of the room, sitting there.

I genuinely couldn't tell if they were asleep. That mask they had on their face made it difficult for me to tell.

How can someone be that quiet? The silence was pretty unnerving.

I glared at the mask for a moment, thinking.

What if I took it off?

I tried to shake off the thought, but now that I really did think about it, did I ever see them take if off everytime I observed them?

What's even the deal with it anyways? Surely they don't actually need it.

I debated on the idea for some time.

Just a quick peek couldn't hurt. Besides, I have time to kill before we find the Seikodomus.

I sat up, my ivory cape dragging behind me as I dusted myself off. I hesitated for a moment before I slowly approached the wild witch. I stuck my hand out, removing the witch's hood, revealing the mask's straps.

I looked at the top of their head.

Oh, so they do have hair.

I quietly chuckled at my joke before I began to extend my hands towards the straps of the mask.

"What are you doing?!" I then heard.

I flinched and looked towards the witch, who immediately jerked their head away.

"Oh, I was simply just taking a look," I nonchalantly excused.

The witch extended their leg and kicked my leg, causing me to jerk backwards.

"Ouch! Jeez, what's your problem?!" I winced in pain, holding my leg.

The witch let out a scoff. "My problem?! You're the one who just tried to remove my mask, you weirdo! I have my rights! ..I think," They admitted before shaking their head.

"I, uh- You ever heard the term "look, don't touch," creep?" They added.

"Creep? Now that's just hurtful," I let out a dramatic gasp and placed a hand over my chest.

The witch scoffed, "Whatever. Where's King?" They demanded quite impatiently.

"Hey, hey, no need to get so quick to impatience," I leaned against the wall and waved my finger dismissively.

The witch sat there in silence for a few moments before they finally mumbled, "He's in the birdcage, isn't he?"

"He's in the birdcage," I awkwardly confirmed, nodding.

"I hate you," They spat with a deadpan voice.

I gasped again and begun acting like I was hurt by their words. "Hate? Oh Titan, no need to be so violent! That hurt my feelings."

"I could care less about your feelings, Goldilocks," The witch scoffed and crossed their legs. They let out a "humpf" before trying to shimmy their way into turning around and facing away from me.

"Awe, come on, don't be like that," I chuckled as the witch finally managed to fully turn.

The rest of the trip was awkwardly quiet. The witch didn't try to turn or even escape, surprisingly. Did they give up? I mean, I tend to have that effect on people.
