Ashton

As we walked toward the locker room, I could tell that Sophie was beyond pissed off, but I didn't care. I was not going to let Justin-Freaking-Thorne flirt with my girl. Sophie shoved my hand off her hip, and I raised an eyebrow in surprise as she glared back at me. "Who do you think you are, Maverick?" She demanded, and I stared at her in confusion.

"Whatever do you mean, Sophia?" I feigned innocence, and she clenched her jaw angrily as she poked my chest.

"You didn't respond to my message last night, but show up here and basically tell Justin that we're together? Why the Hell did you do that?" She exclaimed out of frustration, and I folded my arms against my chest.

"Well, if you hadn't been so busy with Justin, you would've noticed that I did respond to your message," Her eyebrows knitted in confusion as she shook her head. "Check your phone if you don't believe me." I shrugged.

She stared at me questioningly as she pulled her phone out of the back pocket of her jeans, and her eyes widened as she read my message on the screen. I slowly leaned down, and she gasped in surprise. "You kept me up all night with that damn selfie, Sophie. Do you know how frustrating it is to want something that you can't have?" I whispered in her ear, and she shivered as she closed her eyes. I slowly placed my hands back on her hips and pulled her closer to me as my heart pounded against my chest. I loved how her body felt in my hands, and I never wanted to let her go.

"Is that what you wanted, Sophia? To torture me with how unbelievably gorgeous you are, and I can't even have you."

"No," She said breathlessly as she slowly pulled back to stare up at me with her enchanting eyes. "Who says you can't have me?" She asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

The door to the locker room suddenly opened, causing Sophie to stagger away from me, and thankfully, she had because Patrick was the one who opened the door. "What're you two doing out here? You need to get dressed, dude!" He exclaimed, grabbing my arm and pulling me inside. "Soph, Mom's upstairs waiting for you."

Before the door closed, I gave Sophie a knowing look, and she blinked a couple of times before looking away as she realized why I couldn't have her. Because if I dated Sophie, Patrick would never talk to me again, and I couldn't lose the only person I had in my life that felt like my family. As I walked toward my locker and quickly threw on my jersey, I decided that even though I couldn't be with Sophie in public with the risk of Patrick finding out, I could have her in private.

A smile spread out across my face as I finished tying my skates, and our coach yelled at us that practice was starting because once practice was over, I was going to tell Sophie my plan about us secretly being together and hoping she wanted to be with me as much as I wanted to be with her.
