SophieI smiled as I stared down into the crib, imagining my baby inside it and my heart swelled with excitement. "That crib is so cute, Soph." My Mom said, appearing next to me and grinning down at it.
"I really like this one," I admitted with a smile, then glanced at the price tag. My smile faltered slightly as I read the price and looked back up at my Mom. "I can't believe how expensive all this stuff is." I said gesturing around the store and my Mom chuckled as she linked her arm with mine.
"Don't worry about it, sweetheart. This will be my present to the baby." She said as she took the tag off the crib and I shook my head.
"Mom, you've already done so much for us-"
"And I will continue to do so because you are my daughter and that is my grandchild." She cut me off and I sighed as I shook my head at her stubbornness, but gave her a grateful smile.
"Thank you, Mom. I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have your support." She squeezed my arm gently, smiling at me and then glanced around the store before looking back at me.
"You also have Ashton's support, honey." She reminded me and my smile fell at the mention of Ashton. I unlinked my arm with hers and walked over to a table with a bunch of onesies folded on it. I tried to distract myself by browsing through the clothes so I wouldn't think of Ashton, but it was no use.
He consumed my thoughts no matter how hard I tried not to think about him and yet, I was the one who pushed him away right into another woman's arms. "What's wrong, Sophia?" My Mom asked. I sighed as I looked down at the onesie that said 'Daddy's Girl' and it caused my heart to ache painfully.
"I was thinking that maybe I should raise this baby alone." I sighed and my Mom stared at me in disbelief at what I had just said.
"Did Ashton say he doesn't want to help raise the baby?" She asked, suddenly becoming angry and I quickly shook my head.
"No, of course not! I just..." I trailed off, trying to think of what to say without crying, but I knew it was pointless. "I don't think it's fair that I'm the reason we're not together and now he has to be stuck with me in his life forever because of our baby." I croaked out and my Mom frowned at me as she grabbed my hand.
"Sophia, he isn't 'stuck with you'. He made this baby as well, and I know for a fact that he can't wait to have this baby with you." She assured me and I shook my head as a tear escaped from my eye.
"But, I know he wants to date this girl Lindsey, and what if one day he decides to leave us to start a new life with her?" I asked and my Mom placed both her hands on my shoulders and sighed.
"Honey, that boy is in love with you and before you try to argue with me, everyone can see it! He lights up the second you walk into a room and he's so entranced whenever you speak. I don't who this Lindsey girl is, but I do know Ashton doesn't want her." She said sternly and I sighed as I shook my head.
"But you don't know that, Mom! You didn't see the way he looked in those photos with her. He looked really happy."
"What photos, Sophie?" She asked and I sighed as I opened my purse to search for the pictures, but before I could, I noticed my phone was lighting up from notifications.
I pulled it out and unlocked it to see my Instagram notifications were blowing up. Ashton had tagged me in a photo, and my eyebrows knitted together in confusion as his post loaded on my phone.
Once it finally loaded, I noticed it was a picture from my maternity photoshoot. I stared at it in shock as I realized he had announced that we were expecting a baby together. Tears flooded my eyes as I read the caption of the photo and a sob escaped from my lips:
The keeper of my heart and the future
mother to our child.
I love you ❤️"What is it, Sophie?" My Mom asked worriedly. I grinned as I held my phone up for her to see the post. A smirk spread across her face as she folded her arms against her chest. "See, Mother's know everything." She teased and I giggled as I wiped away a tear.
My phone then alerted me that I received a text message from Ashton inviting me to dinner this weekend so we could talk about us. My smile widened, if that was even possible and I looked back up at my Mom. "Do you think he wants to get back together?" I asked excitedly as I texted Ashton back and my Mother chuckled as she shook her head.
"Honey, I think he wants that more than anything in the world. Now, let's go pay for this crib and then take you dress shopping for your date this weekend." I giggled as my Mom escorted me to the checkout counter, my mind raced excitedly with thoughts of seeing Ashton this weekend and the fact that he told everyone about us and that he loves me.
How did I ever get so lucky? I thought to myself as I rubbed my stomach lovingly.
