phone calls

"Oh, you'll get it Seungmin, don't you worry."

Seungmin tried his best not to scream when he shut his front door. "OMG WHAT THE HELL DID I JUST DO!" he thought.

"Hi honey!" his mom shouted from the kitchen.
"Hi mom!" he shouted back, taking off his shoes and walking to the kitchen.
"How was your day at school!"
"Mom, I'm in the kitchen."
"Oh, sorry honey. Anyways, how was your day?"
"It was decent, we found out who our partners were for the history project."
"Oooohh, who did you get?"
"Hyunjin"
His mom stopped stirring the pot she was cooking in. "Hyunjin, Hyunjin....... remind me of who that is again?"
"tall, blonde, stupid, hands-". Seungmin stopped himself.
"Who's handsome now?" his mom questioned.
"nothing, no one mom."
His mom chuckles, "yeah, ok honey. dinner's ready."

Seungmin breathes a quiet sigh of relief and sits down at the dining room table.

Seungmin is in his pajamas with semi-wet hair, ready to start the homework that'll probably take him all night. 

His books and planner are out, and as soon as he puts his pencil to his math book, his phone vibrates. He groans and picks his phone up to check the caller ID, only to chuckle. 

"Hey Felix"
"Hey Seungmin"
"Why did you call?"
"To tell you about my day."
"Can't you do talk to Jisung? i have homework to do."
"he won't answer me."
"welp, life be working in mysterious ways, don't it?"
"pleeeeaaassseeee?"
Seungmin groans again, "fine."
"yaay. so after class today right, I was at my locker getting my history books to do the project, and then I started daydreaming."
"about what?"
Felix sighs on the other end of the line, "it's complicated."
"well, i'm right here, and this math homework's gonna take a while. Plus, I have to start the outline for-"
"I like Bang Chan."
Seungmin gasps, "Really?"
"Yea, I'm sorry if it's too much for you-"
"Because it's about time you told me"
Felix stops,"WAIT, YOU KNEW?!"
Seungmin laughs,"Yes I knew dumbass! You think I've never seen you look at him when all of us are at lunch?"
Felix doesn't know what to say, "so, are you mad?"
"Why would I be mad?"
"I don't know, I thought you'd give me this never-ending lecture about how he's not worth my time."
"that does sound like something I would do, doesn't it?"
"yep"
"well, all I can tell you is be careful. From what I've heard, he only dates girls, and he's never once taken a look at a boy before."
Felix sighs, "I know, I know."
"Well, I should probably let you go, don't want to hear your parents lecture about early homework deadlines."
"alright alright, can I at least tell you about it tomorrow?"
"I'll be there early so I can get all the tea."
Felix laughs, "ok, bye minnie!"
"bye lixie!!"

Seungmin hangs up and puts his Airpods on to listen to his Day6 playlist. With that, his homework goes by smoothly, calculating every equation written on the sheet perfectly. 

An hour into his playlist, his phone rings again. He picks his phone up and sees the caller ID. 

"OMG, IT'S HYUNJIN, WHAT DO I DO?!" Seungmin begins to panic.

There is a lot Seungmin could do. Answer, turn his phone off, freak out and chunk it at the wall, these were all possibilities. But Seungmin just pressed the decline button and continued on with his playlist. 

He sang "You Were Beautiful" over and over again until it became an automatic loop in his head. He himself was getting tired of singing it, but when he reached over to change the song, he got sucked back into the power ballad loop again. 

He eventually finished his homework and started to sing just for fun.

But he forgot about the person on the phone.

"Hello?" a deep voice spoke. 

Seungmin jumped and quickly paused the song. "H-Hello?"

"Hello?"
"w-who is this?"
"Your worst nightmare?"
"huh?"
"just kidding it's me Hyunjin."
Seungmin rolled his eyes, "do you know how bad you scared me?! don't do that!"
"jeez, i'm sorry."
"you know what, i'm hanging up. good night."
"NO WAIT! I'M SORRY!"
Seungmin pulled the phone away from his ear, "ok, 1, why are you screaming and 2, why are you apologizing so loudly at 10 pm?"

Hyunjin took a deep breath over the phone, "Seungmin, how do you know if you like someone?"

Seungmin was shocked. His brain went into a malfunction with all these thoughts, "omg he's never liked someone before. well, not to my knowledge, but that's what people say all the time about people like him. wait. WAIT. DOES HE LIKE ME? IS HE TRYING TO GET A HINT? haha no, no seungmin, calm down, he doesn't like you and you don't like him, right? well i mean-"

"Seungmin, you there?"

He had to bring himself back to reality and figure out a way to answer his question honestly. 

"Well, where do I start? ummm, when you like someone, i guess you start to pay attention to the small details about them, like for instance, if they wear glasses, what clothes they wear, how they do their homework, how they look, and most importantly, how they treat others. How people treat others has a big impact on their attraction to you, well at least for me."

"Is that it?" Hyunjin asks.
"Yeah, I mean i could say more, but we'd prolly be up til 11:30"
"Hyunjin laughs, "yea, you're right."
"well, I'm gonna let you go now."
"noooo, i wanna stay on the phone with youu." Hyunjin whines. 
"Hyunjin, it's late, and we have school tomorrow."
"ugh, fine."
"wait, i have a quick question."
"ask away."
"did you actually hear me singing on the phone?"

Hyunjin chuckles "maybe i did, maybe i didn't. good night." Hyunjin hangs up. 

Seungmin is left so confused. It took him a surprising while to realize that he was on the phone for all that time, but he couldn't call again to confirm, so he just left it alone.

Both Seungmin and Hyunjin lied in bed that night in deep thought.

"i don't like hyunjin"
"i don't like seungmin"

"right?"
