Fifty Five

The two childhood friends entered the crowded venue carefully. They are an hour late due to Chaeyoung drifting to sleep after talking to her girlfriend while watching movies in her room.

Oh! There he is. Yeonjun whispered to her childhood friend while pointing a man in classy suit with his secretary.

Upon hearing what Yeonjun said Chaeyoung suddenly felt uneasy. This is the first time again in almost ten years that she will be attending a business party with her father.

Let's go. Yeonjun said while guiding her friend towards the table where Mr. Son and Secretary Kang seated.

Oh! Sir Choi and Ms. Son. You are here! You look stunning Ms. Son. Secretary Kim said while offering the two a seat.

Meanwhile, Mr. Son is just looking at the two for a minute then continue listening to the person speaking in front.

Thank you secretary Kang. Chaeyoung shyly said.

You're still that shy little girl. Secretary Kang teasingly commented.

You don't need to include the little Secretary Kang. Blame it to my parents. Chaeyoung irritatedly answered.

Yeonjun just stiffle his laugh. While, Mr. Son attention is diverted to her daughter.

What took you so long? This is a business party and you shouldn't be late especially you Yeonjun. Mr. Son scolded the two.

I'm sorry Mr. Son. Yeonjun said while looking down.

It's my fault. Don't scold him for what he didn't do. Chaeyoung defended her friend.

Mr. Son only look to her daughter in disbelief.

Now, let's welcome Myoi's Group of Companies CEO, Akira Myoi. The speaker said gaining the interest of the three.

First of all, in behalf of the host country, I would like to thank each and everyone who had their time to celebrate this business party. It's been three years since we had the last party so I'm happy to meet you all.
To tell you the truth, MGC suffered great financial lost way back 2020 due to the sudden occurrence of the Pandemic. And, without the help of our family friend and new investors we couldn't make it. Thank you to Tanaka's Group of Companies who's been leading in Japan right now, my family friend.

The Tanaka's stood up and bow down.

Special thanks to Son Group of Companies. By the way, Mr. Son himself attended tonight's party.

The crowd started to murmur because it's the first time the CEO of Son Group attended the party held outside America.

Mr. Son stood up and bow down. Chaeyoung panick because the crowd starting to look in their direction not until Secretary Kang hide her by his back from the video recorder.

You look really handsome Mr. Son.
Akira commented making the other businessmen laugh and nod in agreement.

Of course. I am a Son. Mr. Son mumbled.

I looked towards where the video recorder is placed because I'm curious.

No way! Wait. That guy behind the girl hiding behind the older man. Isn't it Yeonjun?! What the he's doing here?!

Before I will end my speech, I would like to take this opportunity for all of you to witness this special moment between our family and Tanaka.

The sudden spotlight from our table diverted my attention to what's going around me. I can see Kenji walking towards our table with a bouquet of flowers in his hands. No way?! This isn't true right?!

He's now in front of Mina.

Myoi Mina, will you marry me?

He asked her in this crowded place with most of the people anticipating for Mina to say yes. Extending her hands preparing to put a ring on Mina's finger.

Mina froze. She didn't know what to do. She was caught red handed. She looked at us but we are also shocked. It made us mute. I want to say NO but how can I when her mother mouthing her to say Yes. The venue became silent.

Myoi Mina, will you marry me? He asked again.

The people is now starting to murmur.

Mina, please. Do it for us. I saw her mom mouthed with pleading eyes.

Yes.

Mina said looking down tears visible in her eyes. It's the saddest yes I've ever heard.

The crowd applauded with happiness while me and Sana went speechless for Mina. Kenji went back to his seat. It seems that he's also forced to do it.

I looked back from where Mr. Son is but I'm more shock to see Yeonjun following a girl who's obviously walking out from the party. Is that his girlfriend?!

I returned my attention to Sana who just hold my hand. She look at me and to Mina. Our black swan is having her anxiety attack.

Mina.. I called her.

She look at me lifeless.

Hey. It's okay. Everything will be okay. I said as I hug her.

I wished Chaeyoung is here! Then the girl walking out pop up in my head.

Wait! The girl.. its not her right?! She's in America, right?! No way she's here. I suddenly panick when I realized his father is here. And, she said she's going to her father. It does make sense that she's here.

Sana tap me because I'm crying.

Hey. Let's be strong for her and I think we should bring Mina out. She said pointing out Mina.

I nodded.

We told Mrs. Myoi about Mina's condition and she let us bring Mina home. She's sorry for her daughter but it's too late the sudden proposal triggered Mina's anxiety.
