"Give it up for your top WNBA All-Stars!"
They were all smiles. The line of women stood proudly, waving to their loved ones and the eye candy for the night. It was a long time coming for some of them. Specifically the one who had eyes on her the entire season.
"Here's your chosen, top player! Beyoncé Knowles!"
She was handed a microphone as the small crowd cheered and gathered to listen to her speech. The blonde cleared her throat, adjusting her blazer. Her confidence was what drew people in. The way her shoulders squared and her eyes shone. She knew her worth, that she was talented and attractive. The ladies couldn't kept their eyes or hands off of her and the men wanted to be her. She was, well... that girl.
"Thank you, thank you. This is all so much to take in, but I appreciate every moment. You know, sometimes, I struggle to keep it humble, but I just know that this was God's plan for me, for all of us." She grinned, dapping the two runner up's. Her close friends and teammates, Kelendria and Robyn. "I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for my team, my coach and my fans. I'm grateful for the life I have and the future I see for myself."
She gazed out into the crowd, her eyes fell on a pair of chocolate orbs floating amongst the group of busy bodies. The woman eyed her, a short smile spreading across her face before she backed away from Beyoncé's vision.
The star player smirked, "I won't take up all of y'all's time. I know the black folk hungry like a muh'fucka. Let me just say that this is just the beginning for me and the rest of these rookies. Cheers to another great season!" She chuckled, handing off the microphone and turning to her teammates to pose for pictures.
She couldn't help but search the room for those eyes again, hoping they'd cross her path, but she never saw them.
The event was small circled. Invite only, with the exception of few plus ones. So who could that mystery woman be? A scouting assistant? Someone's escort?
The list goes on.
Beyoncé had been pulled in every direction the entire night. Her cup, refilled three times before the hype had gone down. She bumped into old friends and new colleagues, bursting with joy and excitement for upcoming training.
"You never quit, do you?" The all-star of the male division said. He came to congratulate her on her back to back wins and, of course, tonight.
The blonde shrugged, cockiness emanating from her tall figure. "What can I say, the ladies dig a hard working woman. Once the next season starts, I'm back to doing what I love and showing you niggas who's really on top."
She nudged him as they shared a hearty laugh. "That big head of yours is going to be your downfall one day."
"Yeah, well my face simply makes up for it. Don't wish bad on me yet, Omarion."
The man smirked, ready to reply with something smug but was called out from the crowd.
"Mari! Are you getting anything to eat, I need to–" the girl paused, smiling with those same chocolate eyes Beyoncé had seen during her speech. "I'm sorry for interrupting, I didn't know you were talking to someone." She slightly bowed her head, slyly eyeing the older woman once again.
Even better up close, she thought.
Her bottom lip tucked between her teeth as her mind ran rampant.
"Oh right! Beyoncé, this is my baby sister, Onika. Nic, this is Beyoncé, obviously." He rolled his eyes. The man watched as his sister became more and more flustered. He knew of her crush on the blonde. For the past two years, Beyoncé had been Onika's favorite WNBA player all time.
