Percy's POV
I did it! I held Annabeth's hand! My heart was squealing like a little boy with a silly crush, which I guess I was. Crazy, yeah.
I couldn't help but look at her as she noticed her hand in mine. I smiled a bit at how comfortable she looked in that moment. Like she maybe trusted me.
Then she looked at me. And I suddenly felt awkward holding her hand.
No!
Do not do it. You will ruin it.
Anyways, I said it.
"We gotta keep it up as the engaged couple." I said, trying to play it off casually with the whole hand holding thing. I lifted up our hands so she knew what I was talking about.
"Of course, we couldn't let them lose their only source of entertainment." She replied politely, but I could've sworn I saw something in her eyes. Disappointment? No. Couldn't be.Unfortunately, she let go of my hand. Can't blame her. It was kinda weird I guess. But I found myself shifting away from her a bit, feeling like I wedged an uncomfortable silence between us. I quickly played it off by turning to talk to Beckendorf some more, listening carefully to every boring thing she said about his engineering. He was a good guy and all, but I didn't understand a thing he said.
After the fire ending, I quickly said goodnight to Annabeth and she gave the same attitude towards me. Why was the hand holding thing so weird? It wasn't that abnormal for a friend to hold another friends hand. Whatever. No biggie, it'll blow over by the morning.
I walked into my cabin, yawning and stretching upwards as I flipped onto my bed, groaning with exhaustion. I hadn't realized how tired I was until I'd laid down, sleep was about to take me and I would be all cozy and safe under my blankets. I fell asleep with a drowsy smile on my face as I knew I'd be sleeping soundly all night long.
I woke up an hour later.
It was another nightmare, I don't even wanna talk about it okay?...
........
Okay I was chased by the blue cookie I'd eaten earlier and it held me hostage over a boiling pool of hot chocolate.
Don't laugh it was scary.
Anyways, I wasn't that distraught over that of course. I'd have WAY worse nightmares, being a Half-Blood and all, you know how it goes.
I don't know what kept me up all night. I just sorta laid there, staring at the ceiling and thought. I didn't know what I was thinking about, but it could be possible Annabeth snuck her way into my mind every once and a while.
***
I heard the breakfast horn go off, only 10 or 15 minutes after I'd finally dozed off.
"Great." I muttered, not bothering to change out of my sweatpants as I only swapped out my black hoodie for a burgundy one. It fit pretty big on me, which was just fine and I figured I'd be passed out in around an hour in the middle of arts and crafts.
I quickly brushed my teeth and half-heartedly combed my fingers through my hair. I yawned into my sleeve and ran some water over my fingers and splashed my face a bit. I quickly dried my face off and slipped my hood over my head before leaving the cabin.
A/N: I think Percy is definitely extra tired because of the events yesterday, getting almost beat up, running around, flying, swimming and probably surfing, and then the campfire performance of course. Then he stayed up all night, so responsible and mature of him right?
