Kai POV
As me and Cole warped back to the monastery, and walked in the doors, it seemed normal. Everyone was there, training, talking, cooking, etc. Cole sighed. Right.
"Guys," he called. The ninja all looked up. "The real Kai is back."
Nya ran toward me and gave me a hug. "I don't need it, but you do, I'm sure!"
I laughed and hugged her back. "Hey, sis." I grabbed Lloyd, Zane, and Jay into the hug. I was so glad to have my family back. What I didn't have back was my memory from Outside Kai when I was in the mindscape. Eh, it's fine. Cole and Wu stood to the side, awkwardly standing and watching. I gestured them over, and they wrapped us in a huge ninja hug. Then we got called on the home phone. "Hello," I picked up.
"Um, so, the vine is, um, resurrecting people from, uh, the dead. Might wanna come on over here."
"Oh crabsicles."
Nya looked at me with an eyebrow raised.
"We gotta bounce. There's an emergency at the hospital."
When we got to the hospital, they were on lockdown. We split into groups where Zane, Lloyd, and I broke through a window and boarded it up. As we quietly moved through the building, I worried about Cole. Are these zombies? Are they just people who came back to life after a couple minutes? What was going on? I heard a couple footsteps, so I snuck past a desk and lit a flame. When I jumped on the person, it was just an innocent nurse.
"Oh," I exhaled, relieved. "What's going on," I asked.
"We need to destroy the vine! It's radiating a weird purple color, and summoning the dead! We think it can be destroyed only by elemental energy!" I sighed and nodded.
"Here, hide in this room until it's safe to leave. If the room becomes unsafe, leave immediately. Understand?" She nodded. "Good. Now, where is the vine?"
"The third floor."
I thanked her and crept away. As I was walking to the third floor, I heard more footsteps. I drew my sword. Undead. As I cut through them, something else—no, someone else was fighting them. Cole. He was also on the third floor. I forgot he was assigned to this area. "What are you doing," I whispered.
"What are you doing," he countered. "I'm going to kill that stupid vine and end this whole thing."
"Calm down. I'm gonna do it. It's from me, isn't it?"
"I can't let you. What if it hurts you?" Cole cut down another undead. I growled.
"We'll go together."
"Fair." He defeated the last one and tugged me toward the source of the energy. We walked into an empty recovery room. Well, almost empty. There was still a floating purple evil vine in the middle. "This was your room when you were unconscious," Cole pointed out. Really? Huh. I shook my head to clear it. There was no time for this. I had to do it. Myself. I turned and shoved Cole out the door and locked it.
"What are you doing, Kai?!?" He shouted through the door.
"I can't risk your safety!"
"You said we'd do it together!"
"I'm sorry." I placed my hand on the window. Cole mirrored me. "I love you," I whispered.
"I love you, too."
I turned to face the vine. You and me, buddy.
