After a long hour at work, I finally get to go home and immediately jump into bed. I packed up my lunch box, grabbed my phone charger attached to the plugger in the backroom, where we had our break time, and went out the door. As I came out of the store, it was pitch black, and all I could see was the forest that was straight ahead and had a huge mountain where residents lived. No one was out there except for my employees and me, who were headed out to leave the store. They all turn and wave goodbye since I'm not sure if they have work tomorrow, but I guess saying goodbye is the right time to say when I don't know if they'll be working at the store or leaving to find a better job with better pay. A sound came from my left pocket as I waited for my ride. It only means that it is probably Emma, the girl I talked to earlier, or just some random notification. I was right again; it wasn't Emma but my parent. I tapped to view the message from my parent. They texted, " Hey, sweetheart, I know you just finished work, and I'm sorry, but my dad and I can't pick you up. " "Do you think you can ask one of your friends or managers at the store to drop you home.?" She stated. I groan miserably and slam my whole body toward the outside concrete, sliding down my whole body to the floor. I pulled out my phone and started downloading Lyft, but as I patiently waited for the app to download, my manager Brittany came outside, locked the front door, and checked that the security was on for the night. She then came to where I was sitting and asked me if my ride was coming. I was honest with her, so I told her my parent couldn't make it. I didn't know why they wouldn't come to pick me up, so this was the first time my parent ever told me that they couldn't pick me up. Brittany politely asked If I would like a ride home, and she suggested. I admired her help, but I didn't feel like I would be comfortable riding with her since I'm known to be quiet around people. I appreciate her help, but Brittany refused to let me be alone in the dark while waiting for my Lyft ride. She then begged again, but my whole thought was put on hold, and I began acting dumb. I still didn't want a ride with my manager since I'm not quite the talking person to be, but Brittany couldn't bear to see me wait; she didn't want to argue with me, so she turned on her blue Honda vehicle and drove right in front of me. I panicked as Brittany waited for me inside her car, even though I didn't know what to do. Then I just thought I would lose my job if I didn't listen to Brittany, I told myself. So I pulled myself together and stood up entirely with the sound of my back cracking, and then I got inside the vehicle. It didn't take long to get where I live since I'm only about five minutes away from work, so that doesn't seem too bad. As we drove down the highway on Route 22, Brittany asked me about my day. I responded that everything was the same since I'm used to working alone or when I do not buy on the weekday. She chuckled and said she was surprised about the conflict between Emma and me today. I was in complete desperation to respond to her. How did she even know that? I spoke. Brittany answered; she saw the whole conversation on the security camera being watched in the office. I gasped for a second since I had forgotten about the camera in the office. I was so shocked that she saw me talking to Emma that I was now too embarrassed to talk to her, even staring into her eyes. I covered my face with my white hands that were shaking rapidly. Brittany intervened and said, "Hey, I didn't mean to say that. You are my best employee, and I promise I wouldn't say this to the other." She spoke.
"This can be our little secret, Lilia." She suggested.
I couldn't argue with her, so I gave her a chance and shook her hand. We were like Rick and Morty.
Brittany asked, "So, who was this girl you were talking to?" She asked.
"Oh, Uh, she a friend that graduated high school with me; she just came shopping for the college thing with her friend," I nervously said.
"Oh, how fun," she said.
"I bet you guys would make a great study pal at college," She replied.
"I mean, I'm not in college yet, but I think she goes to a university instead of a community college," I said.
