•Jace POV

Pip was very forward about our date. Unlike Sarah, she wanted everyone to know. I was more concerned about Sarah. I didn't know how she was holding up. She ran out when Pip kissed me on the cheek. I wanted to go after her, but I knew that she wanted to keep us a secret. So I had to stand there helplessly, while she was upset. In the kitchen I was sitting at the counter. Pip was next to me, eating a bowl of cereal and Silver was talking about who knows what.

"I'll be back." I stood and left without waiting for an answer. I took the elevator up to Sarah's floor. I was desperate to talk to her. I stood in front of her door trying to open it for twenty minutes. Finally, Bailey saw me waiting.

"No use in trying that. She's gone." Bailey shook her head.

"What?"

"Left last night. She said she needed time to think. I saw her leave."

"And you didn't try to stop her!" I screamed.

"Chill out, she'll be back. Don't worry. I don't get why you would though." Bailey shook her head in disgust.

"What does that mean?" I grumbled.

"She thought you were going to leave her for Pip. Especially since you said yes to dating her." Bailey crossed her arms.

"Why would she think that?" Now, I felt mad and sad all at the same time. "Why can't she realize that I care about her more than she thinks?" I sank against the wall.

"Be a man!" Bailey startled me.

"What?"

"Take it like a man! Don't be such a cry baby!" Bailey said and left me. I knew there wasn't much I could do so I just went back to my room. Pip came looking for me a while later. The door was double bolted so she couldn't get in. I just couldn't deal with her right now. Around one in the morning I heard a door slam. I went downstairs only to find Evan and Claire. I went back to sulking in my room. A few days passed, still no word from Sarah. She had been gone a week before she came back. She didn't even glance at me when she came into the kitchen. She looked the same but looked more confident and sure of herself.

"Hey, I need something from you." She was talking to Tony. I leaned in a little to try to hear what she was saying. She noticed and moved into the living room. Sarah was more closed in now. I knew she was pissed at me. But now she pretty much ignored everyone else unless she needed something from them. But she was acting differently. It wasn't like her to shut herself in her room. Finally, I got tired of it. I knocked her door down and walked in. The window was open. I went over and looked down. She was still walking down the alley. Silently, I followed her. She stopped walking when she got to the train station. She went into a cellar just outside of it. I went down and saw the most horrifying sight I had ever seen. It was a lab. Sarah had walked over to one of the men at the lab table. When he turned around, I almost fell down the stairs.

"Thanks, Kat." Bucky smiled at the fake Sarah. I looked around the lab and saw Sarah tied up against the wall. There were blood stains behind her and she was badly beaten and bruised. Thomas was sitting in a chair next to her. Every few seconds he would turn and look at her. It made sense that he was there because no one had bothered to go and check on him in the basement. I crept down the stairs and found a good hiding place.

"What's new today?" Thomas walked over to his dad.

"New guns, courtesy of Claire Barton and Tony Stark." Bucky smiled at his new toys. "Hey you there!" He snapped at one guy. "Lets wake her up." He pointed at Sarah. The guy stood and walked over to Sarah. He was holding something in his hand.

"How high voltage sir?" The guy turned to Bucky.

"Lets do a little extra today. She'll need the energy." Apparently there was a joke in that sentence I didn't get. The guy clicked the thing on in his hand. I could see pure electricity coming off if its needles on the end. The man went for her leg, jabbing the two needles into her. When he pulled back his hand, there was a burn mark on her skin. Her head shot up and her hands pulled against the large metal chains wrapped around her wrists.

"Extra volts I see." She grumbled with her eyes still squeezed shut.

"New toys today." Bucky waved one of the guns around. The look on her face was a mix between horrified and pain. Many of the others in the room put on earmuffs. Bucky walked out from the desk he was behind onto a yellow strip of tape on the ground.

"Just get it over with already!" She screamed.

"Oh my darling Sarah, you have no idea what treat we have for you today." He walked over to her. "I hope you enjoy them." He whispered to her. He went back to his spot.

"I'm not going to say anything." She muttered.

"We'll see about that. Lets have the first one." Bucky held out his hand. One of the men next to him handed him a gun. While he was aiming I noticed Thomas wasn't watching. Instead he was sitting in a chair with his back to his father. I came to a terrible realization when I looked back at Bucky.

"We are in testing. Test one in progress. You are free to fire." One of the men announced. A gunshot rang out. I heard Sarah's breath catch and her gasping in pain. When I looked back at her, blood was pouring from the wound.

"What are you doing?" Thomas screamed at two ladies standing next to a lab tray. "Go stitch her up."

"No, just leave her be." Bucky smiled sinisterly. The nurses didn't know what to do.

"Go stitch her up!" Thomas screamed. Bucky glared at Thomas who only watched them stitch Sarah's wound.

"Next time you go against my orders, it'll be you up there." Bucky snapped at the nurses. Bucky got a new gun and aimed. I stood there watching. Frozen, too horrified to move. Shot after shot. Sarah took it all. She took every last gun until the last one. Bucky shot it in her right shoulder on her scar. You could tell that it was the most painful.

"You," she took a deep breath, "will never break me."

"We'll get you to talk." Bucky slammed the door to a different room. The staff eventually filed out. Thomas was still sitting there. He studied Sarah like an experiment. He stood and walked over to her.

"You know I don't like this." He told her. Slowly, he lowered the sleeve of her right shoulder. The stitches were sloppily done.

"You're the one who did it to me." She looked in the opposite direction. Thomas began to remove the stitches and put in new ones. Before he started on the others, he reached up and loosened the chains around her wrists. Her feet touched the floor. Then he lifted her shirt to examine the few shots to her stomach.

"I didn't want to do that either." He pulled over a chair and began to restitch her wounds. A few times he stopped and examined the scars that were already on her stomach.

"Then why did you? I still don't get that part. I still don't get why you hurt me so badly." She shook her head and looked at the ceiling.

"I felt like I had too. My father is insane. You can't choose your family though." Thomas responded. He finished stitching her and stood. He grabbed a shot off of the lab tray next to him.

"I'll see you tomorrow." Sarah said as he brought the needle towards her. He pierced her leg where the burn was and injected her. Soon she was knocked out again. He retightened the chains. Just before he left he gave her a quick kiss on the forehead. Now I was in a state of shock. But I new I had to get back to the tower to tell the others.
