Article One, Section Two; The Exemplar of a Soldier - The Book of Vesta
The wind whipped through the crimson cloak adorning Vesta's shoulders, loose tendrils of moon-white hair slipping from her braid. Hundreds waited upon the threshold, suspense and anticipation lined the forms of those who had trained their entire lives for this moment.
Vesta was familiar with reading body language, picking out the cadets who came unprepared an easy feat. Her golden gaze scanning over their forms, plotting and scheming - picking out their weaknesses. That one there - tripping over his own feet, fidgeting with his lose clothes. His own clumsiness will be the death of him, he won't even make it across the Parapet. But this one.... The males eyes shined with cruelty, his gaze settling on a small, spindly woman, with hair of brown and silver. Vesta narrowed her eyes upon the male, indignation sizzling her blood, her nails digging into the skin of her palms.
Before she could think through her actions, her boot clad feet were already in motion. Violet whirled around at the hand that sat gripping her shoulder, light hazel eyes widened in surprise. Amusement lined Vesta's eyes at Violet's attempt to draw a weapon. "At ease soldier, I'm not here to hurt you." Violet scoffed in disbelief. "Despite what our parents said, I don't need your protection." Vesta merely shifted her weight upon the balls of her feet and crossed her arms, amusement still apparent in the tilt of her lips. "Really? So you don't need my help with blondie over there? He's been eyeing you up for the last twenty minutes, I'd say you're his prey for the evening." The girl visibly tensed, eyes flittering around in unease trying to spot the male. Vesta gripped her chin between her thumb and forefinger, tilting her head to the right. "See the male with blonde hair? He's picked you off as the weakest, no doubt others have as well. You stand out, and not in a good way. You'll be dead in an hour without my help." Violet ripped her jaw from Vesta's grip, her hazel orbs simmering in frustration. "Whether you like it or not, you need me." Despite her words, Vesta knew Violet wouldn't ask for help until it was detrimental to her survival.
Shaking her head in disappointment, Vesta adjusted the straps of her rucksack, and ran the tips of her finger's over her concealed daggers before sauntering to the registry table. Although not before roughly checking her shoulder into the blonde's. Her lips lifted into a cruel smirk at his hiss of pain and whisper of "bitch" underneath his breath. Ahh never gets old, he's sure to make her a target. Maybe that'll get him off Violet's scent, although she doubted it.
Vesta approached the table her cloak fluttering around her, arms crossed. "Name." "Melgren, Vesta Melgren." Gasps were immediately heard, the females eyes darted up," Melgren? As in The General Melgren?" Rolling her golden eyes in annoyance, she sighed "The one and only." The female awkwardly chuckled, "Well, you're sure to do well. The other's better keep watch with a Melgren on the loose." I merely narrowed my eyes and turned to join the line to the Parapet, when I heard a voice utter with menace.
"Melgren?" My molten gaze darted to connect with one of onyx. My scowl deepened as I took in his massive form, the dark hair and eyes, the scar. My suspicion only solidified when i spotted the Relic tattoo curling over his neck. "Riorison, is it? Thought I might run into you." The look in his eyes promised the sweet relief of death.
