- BACK AND BETTER THAN EVER -

▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂

INSTEAD OF JOINING the rest of their friends on the beach clean up that some local Kooks were putting together, Beck and Natalie had to work. Which would be fine if Natalie wasn't pestering Beck with questions.

"Okay, what is going on with you and Mister Baby Blues?" They were a couple hours into their shift and this was her eighth attempt at trying to get Beck to explain what she thought was something between her and JJ.

"I have a boyfriend." Beck answered again, wondering if taking a break only a fourth of the way through her shift was too early.

"Your boyfriend is a colossal douchebag." Natalie chuckled, crossing her arms over her chest which earned her Beck's raised brows. She had an order to punch in and she was standing there fishing for gossip.

Beck shoved her order book into her apron and offered Natalie the interrogating look right back. "What if we talked about how you were staring at Kiara?"

Natalie bit the inside of her cheek, but didn't look all that shameful. "So what? She's hot!"

"Ha!" Beck smiled knowingly, mockingly, earning her a scoff. "I knew you weren't over her!"

"There's nothing to get over. We hooked up once." Natalie defended, but Beck gave her a look. "...Fine, it was four times."

"And you still like her." Beck spoke in a singsong voice, Natalie wanting nothing more than for her to drop the tray of waters she was about to bring out to set for a reserved lunch.

"Stop trying to change the subject." Natalie followed her out into the dining area where they just survived the lunch rush, now only a couple tables left for a quiet, afternoon meal. "You like JJ."

"No, I don't." Beck countered, setting each glass in their place, correcting any unsightly error she found in the placemats or rolled silverware.

"Come on, Beck. You can't pretend to be in love with Preston forever." She practically whined, more careless as she helped set out the waters. "Especially when there's a super hot, blue-eyed, smokeshow who has the hots for you too."

"He's actually hated me ever since the kegger." She stated matter of factly.

"No he doesn't—"

"He called me a lying bitch, Nat." She said followed by a pause as Natalie's mouth fell agape. "He hates me."

"Okay, I take it back. He's an idiot and I hate him." Natalie stated seriously.

"I know I deserved it, but it felt a little harsh, y'know?" Beck questioned trying to find an opinion that'd make her feel better. Natalie's was usually the only one she could rely on.

"You didn't deserve it, you did nothing wrong." She stated, following her back into the kitchen. "He's an asshole."

Beck needed a little reassurance to let her know she wasn't the literal spawn of Satan, but Natalie may be a little too bias.
