Afiya

Azlan! Should I go alone, or are you coming too? I gave him a scream. I had no idea guys could be so slow at getting ready. I was the one who took so long. As he came down, looking dapper in his formal wear, I was lost in thought.

Azlan

Azlan

He moved closer to my face and whispered, "Chale ya aap ko kuch aur der tak gurna hai," which made me think in my head, "Hayye inhe toh meri jaan hi lena hai ek din." I stepped back from him and into the car. There was a calmness to the ride even though it was silent and nobody spoke.

(One day, he will kill me. Come on, if you are through exploring me.)

We got to my best friend's house. He left me and went to the office, promising to pick me up at night.

Her mother Rahela Aunty, who is so adorable and amiable that I adore her, answered the door when I rang the bell. "Bahut dino baat aiyi ho beta tumhari bahut yaad arahi thi hume chalo andar aoo mai uzma ko buladeti hoon," she said, giving me a hug.

(You arrived after a long period of time, child; come inside, I will call Uzma.)

Uncle called Uzma. She ran to me and embraced me tightly like a bear. Naturally, after nearly 11 years as best friends, we missed each other a great deal and now consider each other more like sisters than friends. We went to her room, where she made me sit on the bed. There must be something wrong with her. I said to her, "Spit it out what happened." With a shocked expression on her face, she asked, "How did you guess it?" "Well, I am your soul mate dude, I know everything about you now tell me what happened before I lose my temper," I shot back at her with a sly smile. "Actually I got a proposal and my dad is considering it," she continued."So, are you happy with it?" I asked as I stood up from her bed to give her a hug. "I do not know if he is in my destiny I can not stop it right," she said, nodding her head, "but I must say I am impressed with this one and after doing istikara prayer I got a positive response." Her response astounded me. I am amazed at how much my best friend has matured. I wonder if our mothers react similarly when we speak with maturity in front of them. I gave her another hug and said, "Congratulations, sweetheart. Do not worry, everything will be fine in sha Allah," after feeling very dramatic. After we parted, I asked her about her work and we talked about random topics, and she hugged me back. She is employed by a separate business. She told me about the welcoming atmosphere at work. After we finished eating, Aunty brought us some snacks. She then began asking me questions about marriage and how her brother-in-law, Jiju, treated me. When I answered, she gave me a look and said, "Afiya." I am afraid. "But why?" "I heard about many divorce cases where in the starting period of marriage they feel like everything is perfect but after some years people lose interest in each other and it will lead to fights and arguments and then divorce what if?" she said, approaching me and resting her head on my lap in response to my question. I interrupted her before she could finish by placing my hand over her lips "Uzma Not everyone is like that, but it is all about destiny; if he is in your naseeb (destiny), then no matter what happens, he will be yours. As for divorce, we never know until we get married whether we will have to compromise on certain issues and whether we should always give a relationship our best; however, if our efforts are not worth the other person, then sometimes it is better to end a marriage than to continue with it because marriage is like a boat; if only one person is making all the efforts, the marriage is destined to sink. I am not sure if what I have said will console her, but she surprised me by grinning and saying, "Well, I do not need a therapist for my overthinking because I have you." She asked, "So are you satisfied with my brother in law?" with a sly smile on her face, and my eyes widened as she purposefully pressed the word satisfied. "Of course I am," I said, slapping her firmly on the head. Thank God, he provides for my needs and shows me love every day. I could not ask for more. "Well, he better be or else I am going to beat him up," she said, glancing at me. You can, indeed, do not you? I asked her, and we laughed at our ridiculous discussions. I felt rejuvenated after spending the entire day with her. It brought back memories of our past arguments, which we would later work out at night. Because of her, I never felt alone in my lack of a sister. I suddenly recalled Azlan telling me to give him a call. I picked up my phone and dialed his number. After two rings, he answered, asking if I should come pick him up. After a thought occurred to me, I started to respond, saying, "Well Azlan, you know Rahela aunty told me to stay over at her house for today and Uzma too is saying me too as I have not seen her for two months so I thought to." Before I could finish, he said, "No, I am coming there in five minutes get ready." And before I could talk him out of it, he hung up.

He arrived on time, just as he had promised. I looked at the time while sitting in the car after my best friend's meeting. His expression seemed to be troubled. I squeezed it while keeping my hands on his. He took his hand from mine and continued to look forward.
