Author's pov :
Afiya woke up the following morning to feel Azlan's soft hand on her stomach. She grinned as a wave of contentment and serenity passed over her.
With adoring eyes, Azlan whispered, "Good morning, Jaan."
Afiya looked at her husband and her heart grew heavy. Especially now that she was expecting, she was appreciative of his love and attention.
Following a relaxed breakfast, Afiya made the decision to see her best friend Uzma, who was looking forward to seeing Afiya as well. Afiya received a hearty embrace upon arriving at Uzma's residence.
With the evening sun creating a warm and inviting atmosphere, Uzma grinned at Afiya as they sat down to lunch "So, what is up with the little one?"
A radiant smile lit up Afiya's face. "She is doing great! I can feel her kicking constantly now."
Uzma's eyes twinkled with excitement. "That is amazing! I am very happy for you, Afiya."
Azlan drew Afiya in by putting his arm around her shoulders. "We are overjoyed together. We have started a new chapter in our lives.
As they sat down for dinner, the warm glow of the evening sun creating a cozy atmosphere, Uzma and Reyaan exchanged an excited glance.
"So, we have some news to share," Uzma announced, her voice trembling with anticipation.
Afiya and Azlan exchanged curious glances, waiting to hear what their friends would say.
"We are having a baby!" Uzma and Reyaan exclaimed simultaneously, beaming with delight.
Afiya jumped up from her seat and hugged Uzma tightly. "Oh my God, sweetheart! I am so happy for you!" She exclaimed, her eyes filled with tears of joy.
Uzma laughed and hugged her back, her eyes filled with joy. "Thank you, Afiya! "We are overjoyed!"
Azlan stood up and hugged Reyaan, clapping him on the back. "Congratulations, my friend! You're going to be an amazing dad!"
Reyaan grinned, his eyes shining with pride. "Thanks, Azlan! We're over the moon!"
Afiya pulled back and looked at Uzma with a mischievous grin. "So, how many months along are you? You're not showing at all!"
Uzma laughed and playfully rolled her eyes. "I'm only three weeks old , so I'm not showing yet. But I'm feeling all the symptoms!"
Afiya teased her, "Oh, I'm sure you're just eating more and blaming it on the baby!"
Uzma playfully hit Afiya on the arm. "Hey, watch it! I'm not eating that much... yet!"
The group erupted in laughter, enjoying the joyful moment together.
3 months later :
Afiya's hands trembled as she carefully prepared Azlan's favorite dish, her heart overflowing with love. Three months pregnant, every gesture felt like a declaration of devotion.
But as the clock ticked past Azlan's usual arrival time, Afiya's excitement curdled into worry. Her mind raced with worst-case scenarios.
"Where is he?" she thought, her chest tightening.
The door opened, and Azlan walked in, his expression apologetic but worn.
"Hey, sorry I'm late. Traffic was a nightmare."
Afiya's face crumpled as she saw the telltale signs of food stains on his shirt. Her heart felt like it had been punched.
"You've already eaten, haven't you?" she accused, her voice of trembling with betrayal.
Azlan hesitated, his eyes dropping. "I grabbed a bite with colleagues. I didn't think-"
Afiya's anger boiled over, fueled by hurt and frustration. "You didn't think? You never think about me anymore! You don't love me like you used to. You're always late, always busy. I'm just an afterthought."
Tears streamed down her face as she sobbed, her body shaking. "I'll just die alone, and you'll move on with your life, won't you? You'll forget about me, about us."
Azlan's expression transformed from calm to furious. He strode towards her, his eyes blazing with emotion.
"How can you say that?" he demanded, his voice low and intense. "You know I love you more than anything. You're carrying our child, our future. You're my everything."
He grasped her shoulders, his touch electrifying. "Don't you know I love you? I love you more with each passing day. I cannot imagine my life without you. You're my reason for breathing."
Afiya's anger dissipated, replaced by shock and awe. She had never seen Azlan so passionate, so raw.
"I am sorry," she said quietly, tears still flowing. "I do not mean it that way.I am not sure what is wrong with me; my mood swings are taking over. I did not mean it, so I am sorry," she hugged him tightly.
Azlan's expression softened, his eyes brimming with tears. He pulled her close, his lips gentle on hers.
"I love you, Afiya. More than words can say. More than life itself."
As they hugged, Afiya felt the depth of Azlan's love, the ferocity of his devotion. Her heart swelled, forgiving him instantly.
"I love you too, Azlan."
Their love, now tempered with maturity and vulnerability, shone brighter than ever.
