Reasons (𝘎𝘦𝘵𝘰 𝘚𝘶𝘨𝘶𝘳𝘶 𝘍𝘢𝘯 𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯)

Chapter-13

"You don't have to worry...we've taken down a grade-1 curse before, remember?" Izumi said softly caressing his face between her palms.

Geto sighed as he leaned into her touch. "I know.. but you can never be too safe. And don't over do it" He reminded her of how she exhausts herself almost to the edge.

"I will.. Now give me a good bye kiss" She smiled cheekily to change the topic as she squished his cheeks.

"Are you sure you have the time for that?" They enjoyed those moments when they could act like normal teenagers and cherish it, before the ice berg of reality fell on them. He was mostly tired nowadays, but he didn't want to waste a single moment he could spend with her.

"There's always time for kisses" She moved closer to connect their lips. But the moment was cut short by the warning alarm Izumi had set on her phone for 5 minutes before their departure.

"Looks like we don't..." Geto said as he smiled at the cute pout on her lips."but we can make it work"

He pulled her for a blissful kiss that made them smile into it. As they pulled back, Izumi looked deeply into his eyes that showed how much he loves her and she had no doubt, her eyes reflected the same..
"Take care of yourself for me till i come back to you,hm? I love you.. "

Geto joined their foreheads still holding eye contact. "I will, if you do the same.. I love you so much.." He slowly whispered as he kissed her temple. She closed her eyes  and melted in his embrace. When it was finally time to leave, she reluctantly withdrew herself from his hold and went outside.

"Let's go?" Nanami asked in question as they were ready to leave. Izumi nodded her head in affirmation and they walked together making small jokes as they went.

As she got out of his sight, Geto's demeanor changed. The little happy twinge in him dimnished as if someone just sucked out every bit of feeling.

"Nature manipulation: Mortem clusters!" Izumi yelled as she kept on fighting, sending attacks after attacks at the monstrous curse.

This one wasn't anything like the missions they were sent to. The information they were told about the curse wasn't right. This wasn't a grade-2. And it was much stronger than the grade-1 curse they'd fought before....
Maybe a special grade? It was more than they could keep up with. But it was their mission! And they would do everything they could.

The three first years were fighting with every bit of their cursed energy till the assistance arrived.
However their attempts were futile. The body that mortem cluster had decomposed, regenerated within a few seconds. It was decided to turn back, but the curse kept them on their toes as it didn't have any plan to let them leave.

Time was running out and everyone was heavily injured. Izumi was bringing forth another attack to buy more time,but she was frozen for a second as someone flew past her and slamed on the wall behind her. Blood oozed out of him as she looked behind.

"NO!!!!...."

Yu laid among the concrete ruble...,a huge gash on his lower  abdomen. His eyes closed and his fingers twitched weakly....

Nanami ivaded the curse's attacks and finally reached him. He felt his body being numb as his eyes fell on his friend. He knelt to the ground beside Izumi and put pressure on his abdomen to minimize the bleeding. But it was no use...

"Yu! P-please... hang in there... I-i'll fix you in no t-time!" Izumi sobbed as she moved to heal him.

Yu wasn't responding anymore but they didn't loose hope. Izumi poured all of her nature essence on him as her sobs grew louder. Nanami bit his lips drawing blood as he held himself together for the sake of both of them.

Izumi let out a light gasp as she felt a heartbeat. It was very faint but a pulse nonetheless. Nanami lifted him in his arms and motioned for Izumi to follow behind him.

The help would be there any minute, but he didn't know how much longer the boy in his arms had. He was their main priority afterall.

But as he was rushing through, they were stopped by the curse lunging a huge rock at them.

Izumi used her cursed technique to hold the rock and threw it aside. "Take him out of here! I'll cover your back!" Nanami didn't want to leave her alone but it was a tough situation and the decision had to be made..

It was just her and the curse now.. She was panting as she was barely holding out and since she used her nature essence, it was more exhausting.
It wasn't complete.. and she knew it wouldn't hold for long..but she didn't have any other choice.Her only hope was that Nanami would be safe with Yu...

"Domain expansion : Poison Catacombs"

They were pulled into a dark purple domain where poison dripped on every side. A boiling large pond, that was of a thick slimey consitency that could burn through the strongest and thickest of metals was behind the curse. Poisonous gas emitted from the little flowers surrounded them. It was a pretty sight for the eyes.. but the cold and dreadful atmosphere made it anything but..

The curse could easily break it but it struggled against it's own body by the venom seeping into it. The curse let out a strained noise as it's movements were restricted and slowed.

The longer the domain was placed the weaker Izumi got... It amplified her mortem clusters and it  degraded the curse's arms and it screamed as it's regeneration was too slow in the domain. It was taking everything in her to not give into her exhaustion. Blood seeped from the corners of her lips. Her vision started to become blurry. She felt the dark spots blinding her vision...

If the curse overcame her domain, she would be killed in it's domain instantly. Moreover, her incomplete domain would drain her cursed energy more quickly and she would die. Either way she won't make it out. So she decided to take her chances as she coughed up more blood. She broke her domain quickly and fell to the ground

Her heart was beating so loudly as she saw the curse had slowly got a new arm. She braised herself as she felt the curse strike her to the wall harshly.

Blood spurted from her mouth as she hit her head. Her mind reeled back to her time with her friends and her lover. She felt guilty, everytime she saw Geto slowly getting detached from everyone. She wanted to keep him the happiest man he deserved to be.. But if she dies here... she can't forgive herself for breaking their promise....

With all of their happy memories in mind.., she succumbed to the darkness... "S-Su-guru..."

"IZUMI-CHAN!!"
