                                                                               {Third Person POV}

Colby still has a few days before his detention, and he's not sure whether he's grateful because he doesn't have to do it yet, or disappointed because he is forced to deal with the anxiety of waiting for the day. He immediately collapses onto the same stained mattress he's had since he was 12 years old. He envelopes himself in gray sheets. They have the scent of his dog and are encrusted in cat fur. He drags one of his pillows against his chest and stares up at the ceiling, feeling empty. Over the next few hours, he does nothing else. He doesn't eat, doesn't drink, doesn't read, and doesn't play games.

Around 9 p.m., Fetta comes upstairs to tell Colby that dinner is ready. She enters the room without knocking, as is usual. The door swings wide, providing a stark contrast to the silence of his room. There isn't a single sound in his bedroom. The silence is suffocating. His room is so quiet that he is able to hear everything that's happening downstairs. He can hear the burner turning on. He can hear his dog chasing the household cat and his dog's claws slipping on the hardwood floor. Nobody is talking, but it isn't a screaming match as it usually is. Fetta speaks up after noticing Colby's lack of reaction to her presence. "Colby." She makes a snapping motion with her fingers. "Colby." She says it slightly louder. "Colby! Dinner is being served!" Fetta shouts loudly and aggressively. Colby eventually shifts his attention in the direction of his sister. "What?" Colby responds blankly, his eyes weakly fixed on his sister. "Dinner's ready." Fetta replies as she walks back out the door and down the stairs to the kitchen.

Colby follows close behind, despite the fact that he knows he doesn't want to eat anything his mother prepared and doesn't fancy spending time with his family. His father is probably intoxicated, his mother is presumably tired and wishes she were able to get away, and his younger sister is undoubtedly pretending to be unaware. That's how it's always been. Colby takes a seat at the table, and everything is just as he expected. Everyone is distant and acting as if they don't detest each other.

"So, mom. "How was your day at work?" Fetta attempts to socialize in order to alleviate tension. Colby's father doesn't work; he simply drinks. His mother works as a nurse in the local emergency room. Colby's mother is his hero, despite the fact that he dislikes her. She works extra shifts on top of her already exorbitant ones, all while caring for her family. He has not a clue the reason why she hasn't left them yet. Despite the fact that his mother gives up sometimes and leaves for a little while, he knows she still loves him. Working those lengthy hours and coming home to a drunk and two potentially ungrateful children can cause a lot of stress. "It was okay." Colby's mother states flatly, "That's good." Colby says this in a weak attempt to engage in the conversation. He soon leaves the table again and gives the rest of the food to his dog.

He returns to his dirty mattress. "If I don't shower in the morning, I'm going to smell like smoke, alcohol, and a dog." Colby thinks to himself, but he doesn't care if he smells horrific; he's simply convincing himself that he does in a lame attempt to feel less empty. I mean he fills the void in his soul with Character.ai and not eating enough food so he has something to actually feel miserable about for God's sake!

He lays in bed for an hour or two before realizing he can't sleep and pulls a list out of his jacket pocket. He keeps his jacket at the foot of his bed so that he doesn't have to get up to grab it if he's cold but doesn't want to wear a blanket. His friend Kai recently gave him a list of show and film recommendations when they found out that Colby doesn't want shows or films much. Most of the time when Colby does watch shows or films he just picks ones with actors or actresses in them that have been in other things he's liked. For example, he only watched Stranger Things because he enjoyed Winona Ryder in Heathers.

He has seen or is unlikely to enjoy a number of films and television shows on the list. The only entries on the list that do not fall into one of those two categories are Gilmore Girls and Wendell and Wild. The decision is influenced by only two things. He decides to wait till his buddy Juniper invites him to see Wendall and Wild with her the next time they plan to hang out in a few weeks, plus Jared Padalecki is in Gilmore Girls and he likes Supernatural. Colby is without a personality. He literally makes decisions based on other people rather than his own interest.

I actually picked things I never watched but do be informed that I started watching Gilmore Girls last night. I think I like third person better than first, what do you think? -Tad
