MAYA POV
"You know if you keep staring at the door, nothing will happen" Carina shouted from our bedroom, we'd been talking about having a party. A semi-formal get together with both the hospital group and the station. It was an opportunity for the team to make a good impression on everyone, and hopefully end in a more positive way than the union party a few months back.
"Marry me" It came out as a whisper, an accident which changed the tension in the room. The silence was deafening as I awaited any response. For the last few months, we'd talked about marriage and kids, we found that we wanted both. Surprised would have been the word of use that day.
"We have everything right? The snacks and drinks? What if there's a fire and everyone has to leave? What if they don't like each other? What if-" I anxiously blurt out questions that have been filling my brain for the last hour. She just smiles and interrupts me.
"I'm going to have to spend the rest of my life with the anxious blonde beauty that I grew up obsessed with" her words calm me slightly despite my eyes not leaving the door in front of us.
"I'm obsessed with you too, my beautiful stalker" I whisper, finally taking my eyes away from the door and making eye contact. A sweet, short kiss is shared between us. Of course, now that there are people here, my anxiety has just heightened more.
"Yes" she whispered back before a knock on the door announces the arrival of some people I didn't have a speech prepared, I didn't have the words to describe or explain our love and I just hoped that the ring would do the job. Which it did. She gasped in amazement. During one of our first dates, she'd told me about a family heirloom that she'd lost, a ring that belonged to her mother. She'd tried finding it for years but never found it, she never asked her brother. But I did ask her brother, he'd had it all this time. The ring was the perfect fit, it was as if it had been made only for her.
The knocking on our door starts again, breaking us out of our trance. Carina grasps my hand in her own as she walks us both to the door to invite guests in. The door opening reveals Amelia and Teddy, two people who have become favourites in my life.
"We didn't just catch you fucking again?" Amelia asks, purely to embarrass or provoke me. She gets an elbow to the ribs from Teddy before they hug us both and entering the living room. Amelia smirks at me before picking at some of the snacks.
"I'm guessing everything here was planned and set out by the blonde" Amelia asks while I'm in the kitchen.
"How did you know that?" Carina teases, I enter the living room as Amelia says, "This just looks like something out of a magazine on how to hold parties". I guess my Pinterest boards, and lists were more obvious than I'd hoped. Carina smiles proudly for a reason I don't quite understand.

About five minutes after Amelia had the chance to tease me, the team from the Fire station all arrived as one, they were acting in a rowdy manner. I wouldn't necessarily care but the doctors always seem to be a little more composed. They'd rushed into the apartment and crowded around the beer and snacks, either ignoring or not seeing the other guests.
"Oh shit, you invited other people?" Jack exclaimed as he always walked into Teddy, a deep sigh of regret left my mouth as I started to think the worse of today.
"Carina?" A voice comes from our front door, I've never been more thankful to hear Jo's voice. She doesn't wait for us to open the door, but instead walks straight through the firefighters to hand over some wine she'd brought.
"Sorry about the team being... the team" I say to Jo in an apologetic tone, she smiles and instantly leaves the kitchen.
"Alright, I know you're a strong team and you need your calories, but I'd really like to eat something. I've just come out of a surgery, so move the fuck out of the way. Oh, and beanstalk, look where you're going." she shouts and each firefighter parts like the red sea for her. Most of them looked shocked except Jack, he looked dazed. He obviously understood he was the 'beanstalk' in question.
"...well that's the last time I ever wear green" Jack mutters as he moves to the other side of the room, completely out of sight from Jo.

With the party in full swing, I found myself being forced to sit down. The rest of the doctors had arrived, and everyone was mixing together perfectly. Carina had forced me to sit down so she could sit on my lap, it was a cute thing at first, but I quickly realised that this was done mostly in an effort to keep me still. I'd been bolting around our apartment making sure everyone was getting on and had a drink in their hand. With Carina sitting on my lap, I found myself playing with her hands and looking around the room. Jack and Jo hadn't left each other's sides for hours now, the sexual tension was only rising with each drink they'd had.
CARINA POV
As a little girl you dream of being engaged. Getting that ring, then the white dress and then another ring. You think about how the moment your spouse would ask you, how there would be doves, candles and of, course roses. My moment trumped that; my moment wasn't planned. An anxious Maya can sometimes be my favourite Maya, this party caused this anxiousness. But when she asked me, there wasn't hesitation. There was only determination, she was determined to become my wife. My partner for life. Her stalker is getting hitched.
The party didn't matter, the conversations felt unimportant. Honestly, the party just became a way for us to tease ourselves. For the guests to mesh together and maybe find love themselves.
