(Charlie Adams)

Charlie sat at his desk as Head of Misuse of Muggle Artefacts office on a cold December afternoon; people seemed to enjoy joking that he had gotten the job there just because he was married to the Minister of Magic but both him and Hermione recognised that he had worked very well to earn. As it neared closer and closer to Christmas- Charlie was rushing to get his work all done so that he could head home and prepare for the festive season.

As he filed out some more reports quickly but carefully, he heard a lady call his name. "Mr Adams, Minister Granger-Adams would like to see you in her office."

Charlie nodded his head, putting away his work into his binder and clearing his desk quickly before heading up to the Minister's office; he always felt a little weird visiting Hermione in his office.

It wasn't because she was his wife but he didn't really have much to talk to her about regarding his job so ninety percent of the time, it was some personal business. Whether it was their son, Matthew, getting in trouble at school or to report what their oldest daughter, Natalie was doing as a Magic Zoologist- the conversations were always something that he secretly looked forward to.

Knocking at the door, he heard Hermione's voice call through the door so he opened it up and mentally prepared him for the conversation that was about to take place.

What greeted him was Hermione sitting at her desk with their seventeen year old son, Matthew, sitting opposite to her with a guilty look on his face.

"What seems to be the problem here, darling? What's Matthew done this time?" Hermione's face seemed to lighten up at the sight of her husband's handsome face. "What's this about?"

"Seems that Matt can't hold back his words against some of his teachers, he got in trouble with Professor Slughorn once again." Hermione looked sternly at their son, disappointment riddling her features.

Charlie took his seat, a fierce glare on their son's downcast expression; this was not the first time that Matthew had gotten into trouble and was certainly not the first time that he had gotten in trouble with Professor Slughorn specifically.

"Matt, what have I told you about talking back to your teachers, mate?" Matt didn't respond to his father, keeping his gaze on the wooden floorboards. "Matthew Daniel-Louis Granger-Adams, look at me."

Matthew's eyes look up, tears welling in his eyes. "I'm sorry, Dad."

"Look, kiddo, I know that Potions isn't everyone's cup of tea but even if you don't like it, you have to respect Professor Slughorn. He might seem a bit unconventional at times but he does his job very well. You can ask Uncle Harry about that."

"Well, that's because Harry was Slughorn's favourite student." There was a lot of truth to his words and Charlie himself had shared stories of not so pleasant experiences with Professor Slughorn from his years at the school.

Charlie and Hermione shared a look that spoke a million words, they needed to teach their son how to deal with difficult situations at school without getting himself into massive trouble with his teachers.

"Matthew, you are doing your N.E.W.T examinations in June. You can't be slacking off now, sweetheart." Hermione's tone was a lot softer as they saw the genuine regret in their son's eyes. "This is your future that we're talking about there, besides, I think you're doing amazing in Potions so don't ruin it for yourself by misbehaving."

"Okay, Mum. I will." Matthew and Hermione shared a warm look.

"We love you, kiddo, we just want the best for you throughout your exams." Charlie patted his oldest son on the shoulder. "You're setting an example for all those younger students like Sebastian. He really looks up to you as a big brother."

Sebastian was their youngest child, he was rather the quiet and stoic child of the family as he didn't like talking all that much which is why he rarely got in trouble at school, unlike Matthew.

"I know, Dad. I'll try my best to get back into Slughorn's good books, I know that all these lectures and reprimands are for my own good and I'm sorry for misbehaving in the first place."

"That's a good place to start, sweetheart. Just keep making us proud and do the best you can in your N.E.W.T.S, that is all that we ask from you, your sister and Sebastian." Hermione gave him a kind and gentle smile as he nodded. "You're free to head home now, darling. Me and Dad will be home soon."

Matthew nodded his head, leaving the room in a better mood than he must have entered in. Charlie and Hermione shared another look that spoke a million words as they stood to their feet and embraced one another tightly.

"He'll make us proud, I know it, darling." Charlie smiled at his wife, pressing a loving kiss to her forehead. "It might take a while for him to get back on his feet but we will support him all the way."

Hermione just nodded in response, their son had promised to do better in Potions but only time would tell if he would fulfill that promise and pass his examinations with flying colours, just like his parents had done years before.
