Chapter 5: Jealous

LaurelPaw's POV

"Friends." I confirmed with a nod. We soon set off back to the camp. I knew the other apprentices would wonder where we were. But now that I think about it, they have no idea I'm a cat.
"I think it's cool your a twoleg." RunningPaw muttered out of the blue.
"What if the clan doesn't except me?!" I cried suddenly worry lapped at me. "No one called my name at my apprentice ceremony!" He looked shocked.
"We would of..." He replied, "like the other apprentices and I... We know how it feels to stand up there."
I nodded.
"Who's your mentor." He asked changing the subject.
"BreezeHeart." I told him with a sigh. "She obviously wasn't pleased with a two-" RunningPaw's eyes clouded with anger. He walked a little ahead of me but I chased him down.
"What's up?" I asked irritated.
"I had a sister who died on the thunderpath the first time we went out." He shut his troubled eyes. "BreezeHeart was her mentor... I hate BreezeHeart!!"
"It wasn't really her fault was it." I asked scared.
"She didn't do anything!" He shouted then he calmed down. "I don't want that happening to you, I wouldn't want that death on any cat..."
We talked and laughed after that when he told me the time CloudPaw tripped over her fresh kill trying to find where she stored it. Next thing we knew we were at the camp through the ferns.
CloudPaw was sitting up in her den worry radiating off her and fear scent flooded the den. LittlePaw and SparrowPaw were awake behind her. LittlePaw was not fully awake.
CloudPaw saw us and her fur began to bristle.
"We're were you?!" She hissed and saw me and became more furious. "Who's this?! Don't tell me you've befriended the twoleg already?!"

CloudPaw's POV

I don't get it? Things were going so well between me and RunningPaw. A little part of me thought we were going to be mates! But now a twoleg came along and I feel far away from him. He was stationed in front of her, almost protecting her. Like I'm going to pounce on her. I let my fur lie flat on my back and I stared at him and brushed my head on him.
"I thought you had been killed!" She murmured. "I was so worried."
"I'm sorry." He replied and he sounded generally truthful.
"We saved you fresh kill." I urged him over.
"Wanna share?" He asked the twoleg cat. She nodded. I went to my den and slept.

"CloudPaw?" I heard RunningTails voice and found ourselves at fourtrees alone. "I have something to ask you."
I nodded.
"This is hard to say but..." He stuttered letters but finally said. "Will you be my mate?"
"I've always loved you." I said back in shock and be entwined his tail in mine.
That's when I saw her. The figure of LaurelPaw poking out from a tree. Sadness reflected in her eyes as she pounced into the clearing.
"Why would you chose her?" She growled. "Why her and not me?!"
"I've always loved her!" Was his answer. "She's beautiful, talented, skilful, her grey white pelt is the prettiest I've ever seen and she-" his voice was cut off by my awakening. I hadn't slept long. They were still eating and he was complimenting her. Not me.

RunningPaw's POV

"You have the prettiest pelt I've ever seen on a cat." I meowed to her. Her whiskers twitched with amusement.
"Really?" She said yawning and going to the den. I followed her and fell asleep.

I was wondering a dark part of a forest I didn't know. I was lost. I saw a flicker of light and saw a shining cat in front of me. FallPaw. She smiled at me.
"Think about who you love. The one who lived there?" She turned her head to a cluster of twoleg nests beyond the trees with twoleg monsters. "Or the one who has always lived with you here?" The forest lightened to show the camp and CloudPaw chasing a butterfly.
"I don't know..." I answered and my sisters eyes closed. "I need help. Can you tell me?"
"I'm not supposed to be here... I can't..." Her eyes were clouded with worry for me and she began to fade.
"I can't go on without you!" I shouted to the empty place she had been. I was alone.

LaurelPaw's POV

"Hi" I recognised SparrowPaw's voice as I awoke. "I haven't talked to you yet. I wanted to." I smiled at the leaders son.
"RedEar is taking me and LittlePaw out hunting. Wanna cone?" He suggested.
"Ye sure, you might need to show me how though..." I mused.

When we were in the forest I smelled a vole. I ducked into ferns and burst out and caught the defenceless creature.
"Well done!" Called RedEar from behind me. "Did BreezeHeart teach you that?"
"BreezeHeart hasn't taught me anything yet..." I answered solemnly.
And at that second BreezeHeart appeared.
"Then I'll teach you something now. Come to the training hollow." She meowed.
At the training hollow BreezeHeart showed me some fighting techniques and told me to fight her. I gulped and she pounced at me. She got on top of me but I pushed her off with my hind legs. She lay dazed on the floor and I jumped over her and raked my claws down her back. She whipped around and hit my hind leg before pushing me backwards. I lay, given up on the forest floor while she got ready to tear down my belly. I sprung up and butted her down in her shock. I then pinned her down. I had won.
"Ok!" She shouted. "Your ok for a twoleg..." She huffed out a long breath and got off her.
"You used a good trick on me at the end." She praised me. "How did you know that?"
"I remember DustyStar told me FireStar did it to trick other clan cats..." I felt proud of myself.
"Go hunt for the clan..." She suggested. "You seemed good enough earlier. Give food to the elders first and then GoldenStripe." I nodded in acknowledgement and ran off.

When I finished I caught a thrush, two voles, and a big sized rabbit. I decided to give the two voles and the thrush to the 3 elders. DappleMoon, a tortoise shell female with warm eyes greeted me. I passed her the vole who dug in. SootFace, a grey Tom with a soot black face has the other vole. LostEar, a she cat with a tawny pelt with only one ear after a twoleg hurt her had the large thrush. They all looked at me in a thankful way and I left. GoldenStripe and her kits had the rabbit. JayKit jumped on my back along with AshKit and SunKit pawing my paws playfully. GoldenStripe got them off and thanked me.

Back at the apprentice den LittlePaw and SparrowPaw were with a patrol and I was alone with the other two.
"Who do you think DustyStar will ask to go to the Gathering tonight?" CloudPaw asked us. She was lying dangerously close to RunningPaw. So close their pelts were almost touching.
"I don't know." RunningPaw told her. "Maybe us 3, SparrowPaw and LittlePaw are a little too young." CloudPaw licked over his ear and her looked at her affectionately. I felt sorrowful at their closeness. They shuffled closer and I closed my eyes.

RunningPaw's POV

While LaurelPaw was out hunting I told CloudPaw about my dream and she told me she loved me. We had this close connection that was being seen. We spent the rest of the day together.

"If we go to the Gathering we might need some rest." LaurelPaw went over to her nest, I followed and CloudPaw slept her tail entwined with mine. We weren't mates yet but she loved me. We woke up before LaurelPaw and she licked my ear again.
"Wake up." She called. "It's nearly time for the gathering." We woke LaurelPaw up as DustyStar called a clan meeting.
"Cats of thunderclan I want to bring all my warriors to the gathering except LionTail and RippleCloud. You will guard the clan. I also want LaurelPaw, CloudPaw and RunningPaw to go."
