I sat on one side of my bed. It was awkward, I had never shared a bed with anyone and now I had to.
My heart was racing with anticipation. Tradition dictated our next moves.
Taking a step closer, Krishna extended his hand to me, a gesture that spoke of his willingness to bridge the gap between us. I hesitated only for a moment before placing my hand in his, the touch sparking a sense of connection. With our hands together, the initial awkwardness began to fade, replaced by a quiet understanding and him playing with my fingers.
We talked. Shared jokes. Played with each other's fingers and rings. We started getting comfortable with each other. We found ourselves laughing, the initial formality between us started fading to a genuine companionship.
While talking, we discovered that we had some similar interests and similar beliefs too. It was a win-win. If restless, we could sword-fight together, if in a need for a thrill, we could go to horse-riding together.
Our love was developing, slow, but there. It was more meaningful, much stronger. But the tension was still there. After the long talks, there was an awkward silence again, or maybe just normal silence but what I felt was otherwise. He understood my reaction and said, "I don't expect anything from you tonight, or any night until you're ready." He reassured me. I was caught off guard, I bit my lip to hide my shyness and my smile too and nodded.
"We've had a long day, I think we should sleep now" he suggested.
We slept into the soft covers, maintaining a respectful distance. "Goodnight," I whispered, barely audible. "Goodnight," he replied with a soft smile, his voice low and gentle.
The atmosphere now was not as tense as before. What I felt now was a normal silence. Peace. I was thinking maybe just maybe I would learn to fully love him and return his love and care.
POV Change
Krishna
I had expected this night to feel awkward but things went on in a nice way. We talked wholeheartedly but I could sense her nervousness in the end. I reassured her and saw her pink cheeks with a shy smile. She was cute, a nice wife. While laying on the bed, on my side, I was thinking if we'll always be strangers bound by titles. I expect things from my wife, love, respect, a genuine companionship, partnership and a connection. Perhaps with time, we will be able to close the gap. I won't ask for more than she's willing to give, but I hope that in time, we can move beyond this polite distance and find something real. Something worth building a life on.
There's a part of me that already feels a protective instinct toward her. She seems so fragile in her silence, like she's carrying a burden far heavier than this marriage alone. I wonder what her life was like before all this, and if she'll ever trust me enough to share it.
Pov change (third person)
Tomorrow will bring new questions, new challenges, and perhaps even the beginnings of something more. For now, they rest. Together, yet apart, on the edge of something unknown. The night stretches on, calm and still, like the beginning of a story not yet written.
