mirrors and ships

30 5 20

I wish I had something to say
I wish there was something to do
If it hadn't happened early-
Would I still be with you?

Wish I hadn't cut it out
But that's just what people do
Always searching for a mirror
They thought, "I found one in you."

But they found my deepest cut
Barley sewn together
They found the end of the thread
And wrapped it round their finger

They say pain subsides
But mine comes in waves
You think you've missed the iceberg
Now there's ice water in your veins

You can row away
Or go down with the ship
It isn't what you paid for
But it's what you'll get

When they came to me,
They really played the part
Full of life and wonder
They didn't fight hard for my heart
