here we goooo first meeting, but there again, gotta keep it slow burn so it's an indirect one haha
Amaia's heart was pounding as they stepped onto the set for their first day of filming. Seriously, this place looked like something straight out of a sci-fi movie, all neon and futuristic. She couldn't believe they were actually here, ready to perform on this insane stage.
Their dressing room? Color-coded and plaid-themed. She couldn't help but chuckle at the thought. "Matching plaids and all!" Audrey squealed.
Kirsten, for all her smiling, was ready for business and Amaia could already see how her professionalism and experience would help their team. "It's all part of the experience. Now, let's make sure we've got every detail covered." And boy, were there details to go through—makeup, lockers, you name it. Out on the set, the production crew was in full swing, cameras everywhere, capturing every angle. Amaia couldn't help but be impressed by the behind-the-scenes hustle.
As Jam Republic settled to the filming area, watching the crew's reaction to the presentation videos, she couldn't help but be completely absorbed in the dancers' profiles that appeared on the screen. Each profile included details like age, experience, dance studio, and even their day jobs. She wondered for a split second how did their video that they had put together before looked liked, and how Mnet had managed to make her appear at least professional enough to be here. If they did. They could also have made it very clear she was not on their level. Whatever. Looking at those presentation felt like watching a TV show, while absolutely not realizing she was a part of it.
The first few profiles flashed on the screen, and Amaia and Audrey visibly gulped. All the teams sounded insanely talents, in battle or megacrew choreos, and every field seemed to be covered. And boyyy were there pretty girls. Intimidating, witty, and confident ? Exactly her type. Of course, she wasn't about to admit that out loud. However her resolution did not last long.
Bada Lee, the leader of "Bebe" team appeared on the screen and Amaia tried to keep her jaw from hitting the floor. Now that she was putting a name on her, she could tell she had already seen her work. But not from this close. She was just an incredible dancer; and looked like a the most badass girl she would ever meet. She seemed totally confident in her interview, and her smirk did make Amaia feel things she was not supposed to feel watching a 10 second video from a total stranger. Anyway, getting off-track.
However, her eyes might have been a little too wide for a little too long and Audrey, who knew her too damn well, couldn't resist poking fun at her. "Well, well, well, look who's gobsmacked! Amaia, you find someone who intimidates you already?" Amaia's cheeks flushed, and she stammered, "I-I'm not intimidated. I just... respect her talent, that's all."
Latrice chuckled, leaning in with a sly grin. "Respect, huh? If you say so." Amaia shot Latrice an unamused look but couldn't hide the hint of a smile tugging at her lips. Audrey sang-song in her ear, so none else would hear, with a teasing "Intimidating and talented? If that ain't your tyyypeee".
Amaia's heart skipped a beat, not because of Bada Lee -even though she did threaten to send her in palpitations, but because of her crew's playful teasing. She wasn't one to hide her bisexuality, and her friends knew it but while she didn't mind them knowing, she was not sure about it being filmed on a live camera in a foreign country.
The teasing went down and the girl refocused on the videos, trying to take notes of every group's styles and expertise. Once they finished their last clip, it was time to head back.
At the hotel, Amaia couldn't help but feel a bit embarrassed about her reaction to Bebe's presentation. She knew that the cameras had captured it, and she hoped it wouldn't be too obvious when the show aired. Jam Republic gathered again in Kirsten's suite and Amaia made an effort to be a bit more composed. The group shared their impressions, and Audrey, ever so helpful, said "Hey, you're being surprisingly chill about it now. Everything good ? Our teasing got your tong ?" Amaia knew it was Audrey's way to ask if she had went too far or not. She grinned, trying to play it off casually. "I don't see what you are talking about"
"Come on, Amaia, spill the tea! How many crushes have you got lined up?" Latrice said jokingly, sensing the sarcasm. Before she could answer, Ling jumped in, "Nah but girl don't even answer, I got you, there is just too many pretty girl on this set, so same, girl, same.", giving Amaia a playful nudge. Amaia couldn't help but smile and embraced the moment. "Alright, fineeeee, maybe intimidating issss my type, but I'll keep the fangirling off camera don't worry, I'm a professional". Audrey and the rest of the crew burst into laughter, knowing full well that Amaia's initial reaction had been genuine, but it was all in good fun, and Amaia was grateful for her crew's understanding.
And if that night, Amaia dreamed of Bada Lee's smirk, it was no one's business but her own.
