Chapter 9: Laughs and Giggles

27 2 11

Sirius Black had just joined his young friend Peter Pettigrew in the kitchen. He sat next to his little friend in a relaxed way. One leg was bent with his foot resting on the chair, the other on the ground. He let one of his arms drape across his bent knee while his other arm rested on the table.

Sirius watched his friend closely upon entering the room. He'd seen the expression his friend had worn before the Auror had announced himself. Sirus didn't like it, the look didn't suit Peter. It made him look... wrong.

The dashing young man had watched as his friend's face shifted instantly upon realizing he wasn't alone. The fear in Peter's eyes was real, just like the relief that obviously washed over him when realizing who had intruded on his personal moment.

Sirius felt slightly uncomfortable, but bringing attention to the situation would only be more awkward for both of them. It was best to move one quickly.

"You enjoy your breakfast, Pete?" Sirius raised an eyebrow, gesturing to the empty plate.

Peter's eyes went wide, the anxiety was practically ebbing off him suddenly.

"Um," The dusty-blonde haired boy was at a loss for words for a moment. "Yeah, it was nice."

Sirius ignored the boy's odd reaction, hoping to help his friend feel at ease.

"Yeah? We worked hard on it!" Sirius puffed out his chest and held his head high. A smirk made its way easily onto his face.

It took Peter a moment to process his friend's words, but eventually he caught on and his youthful smile returned to its rightful place. Sirius felt a small bit of tension ease out of his shoulders as he saw it. That was a much better look on Peter.

"I see," Peter chuckled to himself. "Thank you ever so much Pads."

"Of course! Anything for my friends!" Sirius laughed outright, slinging an arm around his friend and pulling him in for a side hug. Peter smiled and returned the friendly action.

Pulling away, Sirius noted the open paper and the article.

"Nasty business." He nodded towards the story his friend had been reading. His Mother must have talked about the Mortimer Family on occasion, the name sounded familiar. It must have been when there was another 'mysterious disappearance'. Mother Dearest always did love such tales. Father had always dismissed them, only caring about the facts. Regulus well... Sirius didn't know much about what his brother thought anymore. A small pang echoed through his heart. He pushed it down, trying to chase away the small sad voice of his little brother from a broken childhood long since past. There was no point in regret now.

Sirius closed his eyes and shook his head.

"I suppose so, but I'm sure it might be nice to inherit such a fortune though." Peter shrugged looking back at the paper for a moment.

"It's not worth the trouble," Sirius shrugged a little, missing his usual sass. "There are more important things."

"I guess..." Peter mused to himself.

"Oh come on! I can think of several things right off the top of my head that were worth at least three family fortunes." Sirius waved his hand around dramatically as he spoke.

"Like what?" The dusty blonde young man furrowed his eyebrows as if his friend was insane.

"Oh, you know something like... the Fluting-Tooting prank we pulled back in school." Sirius let a wicked grin split across his face as he remembered the incident.

It had been near the end of 5th year. Remus had been off with Peter helping him get in some last minute study for the end of year tests. It was then that a few stressed 7th years made the mistake of threatening Remus while in the Library. When Peter had told the others what had happened they began to plot, Remus too oddly enough. Perhaps they had touched a nerve. James thought it would be a good idea to help them 'loosen up' before exams.

The charm itself wasn't too hard, but hitting everyone with it was tricky. They managed to hit every single person in the 7th year, something that took the entire day. They also convinced the house elves to serve plenty of beans at dinner that night, claiming it was a tradition among muggles, and would make the muggle-born's very happy. The following day, the spell took effect making it so every time the person affected expelled gas, the sound of the Hogwarts Train filled the room. Sufficeth to say, 7th year classes were a disaster and Remus enjoyed peaceful time in the Library once more.

Well... as peaceful as one could expect with the rest of the Marauders trailing behind him.

Peter laughed remembering the incident. It was one of their best pranks! Even if he had lost an entire week of studying to make it happen.

"Oh that was an epic show, wasn't it?" The dusty blonde smiled up at the ceiling remembering some of the other pranks they had pulled over the years. "I don't know if it was as good as the Sneezing-Pants prank though..."

It had been around the middle of 4th year. It was actually one of Remus' ideas, believe it or not. He'd read an old tome and was suddenly inspired to create something with what he had learned. All it took was a slight dusting of the ingenious magical powder they had made. Obviously they had to use it on the Slytherin table. Once the members of the snake's pit sat down, it was too late. Every time someone sneezed, the undergarments of the entire Slytherin house would explode in a puff of gold dust. It was a beautiful sight, as the marauders had suddenly developed an odd allergy to something in the air, causing them to sneeze at the most random times. James had taken extreme pleasure in how Snevelous flinched every time someone sneezed after that.

Peter swore he would never forget the look on the Slytherin team captain, Emma Vanity, when he'd sneezed her knickers away right before the Slytherin/Ravenclaw match. It was one of his best moments. Unfortunately the powder stuck to the skin of each person for a different amount of time, so it was inconsistent. Some people got it for only a few hours, while others got a couple days. But that didn't really matter, it was still amazing.

Sirius busted out, letting his rowdy laughter fill the warm room with Peters. The two marauders laughed themselves nearly to death.

"I'd almost forgotten that one. I'll admit Wormtail, it's a close second." Sirius finally continued on as their laughter had died down. The two young men just basked in the moment, enjoying the memories as they flew by. "Ya know," Sirius continued, " with all the pranks we've pulled we should really write them down or something."

Peter tilted his head to the side.

"R-really?" A look of uncertainty crossed the short man's face.

"Yeah, sure! Why not?" Sirius dramatically spoke, allowing his hands to express his excitement. "It's not like Minie can give us detention anymore, and Dumbles always did enjoy our work."

"I guess..." Peter furrowed his brows thinking looking as if he was in deep thought.

It was just then that the sound of someone's slow steps echoed down into the kitchen. Both Peter and Sirius turned to face the doorway waiting to see who it was.

It didn't take long for the person to emerge leaving the two men at the table stunned.
