The Friday Night Lights lit up the Hawkins High's football field. However, the field wasn't occupied by the Hawkins High Tigers, but rather the Hawkins Middle Cubs. Leading the team was the starting quarterback, the Prince of Hawkins: Nathaniel Harrington.
The field wasn't exactly lavish or grand, but football was a popular sport that never failed to draw in people to watch the game. People didn't even care that they were watching middle schoolers play football, it was chance for Hawkins as a whole to win something.
Nathaniel watched from the sideline as the defense lined up against the away Jordan Middle Falcons' offense. The quarterback, a popular kid called Johnny Harris, stood in the huddle with the Falcons offense. He began calling the play out to his team as the huddle broke. They lined up as the defense watched.
The Hawkins Middle Cubs' Defense's Captain and Middle Linebacker, who happened to be the renown bully Anthony 'Troy' Walsh, made an audible as the safeties in the back pushed closer up. It seemed like they were switching to some type of man-to-man/blitz hybrid and rush the Quarterback with the full house. Troy had said that he'd wanted to add another sack into his record, but this was pushing it to a new level of selfishness.
The Hawkins Middle Cubs were leading a close game that had a score of 23-20 in the 4th and final quarter of the game. The time was winding down and Jordan had already passed the 50 year line and inched closer and closer to Hawkins' endzone.
Nathan glanced around, spotting the Party in the bleachers who probably had no idea how to play nor what the rules were even to begin with, minus Lucas. Still, he was thankful they even bothered to show up to something as trivial as this when they could've been doing another D&D campaign. He looked to the right, spotting Steve and Nancy cheering him on. Jonathan Byers was close by as well, cheering on for the kid with Will next to him.
He was thankful, truly thankful. The game had taken a toll on the boy mentally, perhaps the toughest he'd had to play ever since his team was slacking on the most part.
Hawkins' defense had tried their best to do their part but Jordan's offense was just simply better. Hawkins' offense was the strongest part, but unfortunately their main offensive line was missing some key players, such as Troy Walsh's friend James Dante who was the Center for the offensive line.
Nathan had been forced to scramble for the majority of the game, finding little opportunity for passes with the poor blocks he'd been given by his offensive line.
Nathan spit into the dirt as the Jordan QB, Johnny Harris, had hiked the ball, watching as the Hawkins defensive line and Jordan offensive line, which consisted of above-average sized 8th graders, 7th graders, and 6th graders, rammed into each other. Troy rushed between a Defensive End and a Offensive Guard that were pushing and shoving each other, getting a clear path at Harris.
Nathan could only continue to watch as Troy was suddenly shoulder tackled by Jordan's Running Back out of nowhere, effectively ending his shot at a sack. A collective gasp was heard after the block from the Running Back. Johnny scrambled a little, running to the left and swerving away from another Defensive End that was getting blocked by the Jordan's Center.
Johnny tossed the ball into the air, a perfect spiral; which was to be expected from someone like Harris.
Nathan only watched in horror as the pass landed perfectly into a Wide Receivers hands. A dime of a pass, which led to a 39 yard Touchdown. Troy put all his eggs into one basket, and got his basket fucking obliterated.
Nathan hung his head, standing up and pacing. He begun shaking his head as he glanced up at the ranger green scoreboard in the back corner of the field.
