"So, that wasn't so bad. For my first human get-together it was rather... quaint."
I switched off the engine, turning towards Alice in the gloom of the cabin.
All the lights were switched off in the house, and I figured Charlie had gone to bed. All that was left was the sparse street lamps to illuminate us through the windshield.
It felt just as electric as that first night together after coming home from Port Angeles.
"Quaint?" I probed, the corner of my lips pulling up.
"Mhm," She nodded, rolling her lips together - my eyes automatically following the movement, "I am used to just a little more extravagance. See, if I was the one behind the planning, there would have been far more fairy lights. And, perhaps, if time would allow, a little makeshift disco in the back room."
"Alice," My head fell back against the headrest, laughter rippling up my chest, "This isn't the 1970s. Nobody is going to want to get down and boogie."
"Why not?" She frowned, folding her arms over her chest as a pout started to form, "Novelty is fun! And so is dancing. Nobody dances anymore... You are all so boringly repressed in this era!"
"That's rich," I smirked, tugging at her wrists until she let them fall free. Without a second thought I unbuckled myself and clambered onto her lap. I had to make up for lost time.
"I'd argue you're way more repressed than me."
"How so?" Her pout immediately dropped, and she slipped her hands inside my coat, running her fingers leisurely up and down my sides.
"Well," I blushed, suddenly feeling shy, "You're the one that's always holding back. I mean, well, tonight you were less... withholding. I liked it. I liked seeing you like that. Hearing your thoughts. I mean, um, you letting me in on them, anyway. Is this, uh, going to be a new thing, you think?"
She hummed in acknowledgement, a hint of a purr rumbling up from her chest. Her hands slid lower to massage the small of my back. I instinctively arched into her.
"I have been awfully closed-minded for far too long. I am starting to lose my self-control. My willingness to play things safe..."
With her trailing words, her breath and lips soon followed, marring the smooth and delicate skin of my neck. I let out a surprised yet pleased gasp at the chill, my hands gripping onto her shoulders.
I wondered if she liked that tender spot on my neck so much, because it tempted fate more than any other.
"Does that mean you're willing to try?" I mumbled when she pulled away, penetrating topaz shining in the dark.
"With time I think I... I think we can. Being away from you has put things into perspective for me. I want all of you. Mind, body, and soul. I am willing to do and try anything to be as close to you, as one with you, as is humanly, or perhaps vampirically, possible."
Her eyes roved over my face, darkening until they flamed back up with a near unbearable heat.
"I need you, Bella..." Her words husked out low and throaty, sending warmth blossoming down between my legs, "There is nothing I will not do, in order to make you inexorably mine."
I couldn't help myself, and pressed firmly against her, sighing when her hands reached down to cup my rear.
"Maybe we can practice more than just supernatural abilities. Maybe we can practice pushing things as far as, um, like you said, humanly possible?" I murmured breathlessly against her cheek, nuzzling my nose into her hair and inhaling deeply.
