CHAPTER SEVENTEEN,
get you back.

AFTER THE GROUP MEETING, SOLANA RETURNED TO WORK TO COMPLETE HER SHIFT. The meeting went...well. Once she was able to block out Steve, things went a little bit better.

The rest of her day went by rather smoothly, with Max and Eleven stopping by the store. Eleven didn't know where to begin. All of this was new to her. She's never been to a store, let alone a mall.

Solana recognized the redhead immediately, rather surprised that Eleven was granted permission to leave the house. Max later confessed that Eleven wasn't allowed to be there, but it was her first time shopping. From what Solana could remember, she knew that the two young girls weren't exactly friends. Now, it looks like Eleven is warming up to the idea of Max.

"I remember you worked here," Max beams. After the events of last year, Solana and Max have became close friends. Max would say that they are forming a sisterhood. Solana is the big sister that Max always dreamed of having. Solana wouldn't mind forming the same type of friendship with Eleven.

"Nice to know that you think of me," Solana teases, earning a laugh from Max. Then, she looks over at Eleven, whose eyes are fixated on a shirt that was displayed on a mannequin. "Do you like that?" Solana inquires. Eleven turns her head, making brief eye contact with the older girl, "How do I know...what I like?"

"I mean, you just try different things on. Then, you will figure out if it feels like you." Solana answers.

"Like me?" Eleven asks, clueless.

"Yeah," Max chimes in. "Not Hopper. Not Mike. You." A smile graces Eleven's face and for the first time, she finally understood what it meant to do girly things, as Max would call it.

Solana had the perfect idea. "How about you find some clothes that catch your interest, try them on in the changing room, and I pay for them?"

Eleven was astonished at the offer. "Really?" They've only interacted a few times. Solana remembers what it was like to be a kid. All she worried about was makeup, clothes, and boys. Eleven deserve to share the same experiences with any teenager. That is why she said to Eleven, "Girl, it's your first time shopping. It's my treat."

Outside of the changing room, Max was giving Solana the story about Mike. Solana had to remind herself that boy problems come with any age. It's inevitable.

"I keep telling her boyfriends lie all the time, and she needs to start treating him like shit." Max's words could be heard between the three girls.
