The grandeur of the Beijing press room was palpable. Murmurs of anticipation reverberated through the hall as camera flashes painted transient silhouettes against the emblem of the People's Republic of China. All eyes settled on Minister Li, the stern face of the Chinese government, as he stood tall beside Dr. Wang, China's renowned marine biologist.
Clearing his throat, Minister Li began, "Ladies and gentlemen of the press, we've convened here today to shed light on the maelstrom of rumors that swirl around our operations in the South China Sea."
A journalist, not waiting for a cue, blurted out, "Did your operations lead to the destruction of the unidentified eggs?"
Minister Li's eyes hardened, "During our rightful activities, certain anomalies were indeed discovered and inadvertently harmed. However, to term them as 'eggs' without concrete evidence is reckless speculation."
Another hand shot up, "The seismic tremors in the region—do they have any connection to these anomalies?"
Dr. Wang, adjusting his glasses, interjected, "The South China Sea has always been a hive of geological activity. To tether natural seismic events to these discoveries, with no scientific basis, is absurd."
A third reporter challenged, "Multiple sources, including the Philippines, insist on a linkage between the tremors and your operations. Your comments?"
Minister Li's gaze remained unwavering, "We hold our neighbors in high regard. However, we must caution against being ensnared by folklore and legends. Our undertakings strictly adhere to global standards. Painting them in a malevolent light is a gross misinterpretation."
"But the concurrence of the tremors with the unearthing of these objects..." another journalist began, only to be cut off by Dr. Wang.
"Coincidence isn't evidence. Our teams are diligently researching the matter. Drawing conclusions prematurely is a leap into the realm of fiction."
With a final note of finality, Minister Li proclaimed, "We beseech the global community to differentiate between fact and fantasy. Our nation's commitment to regional peace and collaboration remains unwavering."
As the flurry of camera flashes intensified, Minister Li signaled the curtain fall on the conference. "We appreciate your attendance. More information will be relayed in due course."
But as the government officials vanished behind closed doors, a maze of whispered conversations among the journalists betrayed a collective skepticism—a sense that there was more to the story than met the eye.
