POV Ash
My first match of the Kalos League was going great. Pikachu took out my opponents Altaria and Pangoro, but he was fainted by the opposing Aggron. No problem. This grassy battlefield was perfect for something Talonflame, and I had prepared. "Go Talonflame!" I shouted as my fiery friend appeared on the battlefield.
"What's Ash doing?" thought Clemont, "Talonflame is very susceptible to Rock-type moves."
"He told me yesterday that I inspired something," noted Serena. Sawyer was furiously scribbling something into his notebook while simultaneously watching the battle. It was actually the second match of the entire conference. Trevor battled Alain in the first round and sadly lost. I didn't know that Charizard had two different Mega Evolutions.
"Talonflame looks determined," exclaimed Bonnie.
"Knowing Ash, he's probably ignoring the type match-up for some reason," sighed Gary.
The referee called, "Battle resume!"
"Aggron, use Stone Edge!" commanded Titus. The metal behemoth stomped his foot on the ground, causing blue rocks to erupt below Talonflame.
"Talonflame, drill through it with Steel Wing!" I yelled. Talonflame cawed before its wing began to glow. My fiery bird began spinning rapidly as he flew towards the Stone Edge. The rocks shattered easily thanks to Talonflame's high speed. My bird popped out of the other side of the boulder and struck Aggron hard.
"Aggron, use Atotomize and grab it!" ordered Titus. Aggron suddenly began moving at high speeds. Talonflame flew higher to avoid the charging Steel type. Much to my surprise, Aggron jumped into the air and wrapped its arms around Talonflame.
"Look out, Talonflame!" cried Bonnie. Aggron fell back down to the ground with Talonflame in a tight grasp.
"Use Head Smash!" screamed Titus. I smirked, knowing that Titus had made a mistake.
"Talonflame, use Fire Blast!" I laughed.
"Huh?" gasped Titus as Aggron's head started glowing.
"Talon!" screeched Talonflame as he opened his beak. Orange light dazzled the Arena. At point blank, Talonflame blasted Aggron with a powerful burst of fire. Aggron screamed in pain and let go of Talonflame. My fiery friend took to the skies with an excited expression.
"Alright, buddy, Brave Bird!" I smiled. Talonflame's body glowed with a blue tint as he charged at the dazed Aggron. With one last strike, Aggron fell to the ground.
"Aggron is unable to battle, so Talonflame wins! Which means Ash from Pallet Town moves onto the next round!" announced the referee. The crowd cheered as my picture with the word WINNER appeared beneath it. Talonflame flew over to Pikachu and me and landed on my shoulder. Titus returned Aggron to its Pokeball as we both walked to the middle of the battlefield. We shook hands and waved to the crowd before turning around and heading back into the trainer halls of the stadium.
"Both of you did great out there!" As I pet Pikachu and Talonflame, I exclaimed, "That Fire Blast was perfect, Talonflame; I'm proud of you for learning it so quickly!" I took out Talonflame's Pokeball, "Get some rest. You deserve it." Talonflame turned red as he went into his Pokeball.
"Pika!" exclaimed Pikachu before relaxing on my shoulder.
"Don't worry, buddy, we're heading for Nurse Joy's station right now," I assured, "That battle reminds me of Paul."
"Ash!" a feminine voice echoed. I looked around, I was still in the long corridor that eventually led to the service area of the stadium. Serena appeared from around a corner.
"Babe?" I asked before realizing why she was down here. There were tears in the corners of her eyes. Serena ran up to me and threw her arms around my chest. I grabbed her hips and held her tight.
"Thank you," she whispered before passionately kissing my lips. Pikachu jumped off of my shoulder to allow us some space. After what felt like forever, we split our lips and smiled at each other.
"All I did was teach Talonflame a new move," I chuckled.
"The move that helped me become Kalos Queen," blushed Serena as we held hands. Pikachu jumped on my shoulder before walking up the stairs to the service area. I held the door for Serena as we stepped out into the fresh air of the stadium. The service area was one of the entry points for trainers heading to the arena. The shopping area was in a part of the stadium where sunlight could enter through a space in the ceiling. The place was full of food vendors, shops, and Mini Pokemon Centers.
"There you are, Serena!" called Shauna as she walked over, "When you left our seats after Ash won, we thought you gonna go... well, I'm not really sure what I thought you were gonna do, but the boys had some theories."
"Where is everybody else?" I asked as Serena and I walked over to one of the Pokemon Centers.
"They're watching the next match," explained Shauna, "They sent me to check on Serena. I guess I'll see you up in the stands." Shauna waved before heading to the entrance to the stadium seats. After having my team healed by Nurse Joy, Serena and I went to join all our friends in our seats. Time seemed to fly by as we watched the Preliminary Rounds. Tierno and Sawyer both won their battles, moving the two onto the next round. We even saw two trainers with Mega Evolutions. Astrid has Mega Absol, and Remo has a Mega Garchomp. The initial 64 trainers soon decreased to 32. It was around Noon when it was time for my second round. The nine of us were eating lunch when the order of the next 16 battles was announced.
"You're up second," pointed out Tierno, "I'm up ninth, Sawyer is the 12th battler, and Alain is the 16th."
"I analyzed your first battle and noted how well Steel-Type Moves do against Rock-Type Moves. Maybe there's something to do with move typings," thought Sawyer.
"It's Ash," mumbled Trevor, who was eating a Sundae, "You should always expect the unexpected."
"Ashy-Boy beat half my team with a Charizard, so I agree with you," added Gary.
"Why haven't you used Greninja yet?" asked Bonnie, "Are you trying to keep it a..." Clemont put a hand over Bonnie's mouth. "Ohhhhh," realized Bonnie, "Never mind."
"Greninja is ready. We just haven't had a chance to battle yet," I explained.
"Trainers," announced the speaker system, "Please prepare your Pokemon. The next round begins in ten minutes."
"Oh boy," gulped Clemont as he finished his food, "I'll go save our seats. Bonnie spotted a female trainer start walking next to Clemont.
"She's perfect!" exclaimed Bonnie as she chased after her brother. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a blue-scarred individual climb stairs.
"Hmm," thought Alain from the private box reserved by Lysandre, "Maybe."
