Kayla's POV.
The day dawned crisp and clear, sun rays blazed through my curtains like daggers ripping me from peaceful sleep into the harsh reality that I was late for breakfast.I turned on my cell phone which reads 8:00 a.m.
I smiled to myself knowing fully that today was gonna be a good day.
I rubbed my bleary eyes and walked towards the sink, taking a glance at my messy face before brushing my teeth.
After brushing and wiping my face, I rushed downstairs like a hungry lion.
"Good morning mom, dad," I said while reaching the bottom of the stairs.
"You're late." My sister teased.
"I know Kiara," I replied. "You know I stayed up late waiting to see if I got admission, the letters should have been sent out by now."
"We know you're nervous but staying up late won't do anything to help you." My mum said kindly.
"Your mum is right, stress doesn't help anything." My dad added.
"I know Dad," I replied while sitting at the dining table. "I can't help it ".
I looked at the food neatly proportioned on the table and glared at it. " Oatmeal with fresh fruits again". I uttered feeling displeased.
"We are vegetarians, you should have gotten used to it by now". Said mom.
"I know Mom, but can we just quit eating grass? I'm not too keen on this lifestyle." I nagged.
"Look at me. I'm as skinny as a needle. Helen eats whatever she wants in her home, and look how healthy she is. So why am I restricted?" I whined.
"Quit this! You are grounded". Dad yelled at me.
I shrugged. Nothing new here. I just rolled my eyes and stuffed food in my mouth.
"Have you gotten an admission letter from your dream university?" Kiara asked trying to lighten up the mood.
I smiled, silently grateful for the distraction. "No," I replied. "You know, I wish you were going with me," I said to my sister with my mouth full.
"Manners please." My mum admonished.
I rolled my eyes and swallowed. "Sorry," I said half-heartedly.
Kiara just smiled. But the smile seemed fake.
Kiara is a loving, supportive, and caring human being. She immensely loves animals and fishes.
But all that stopped when she got visually impaired at a young age. Kiara got blind at seventeen.
She became sulky and always sought solitude. She slowly became more of an introvert.
I feel heartbroken for her, she could not enjoy her teenage years. "It is what it is".
"Well, I'm going back upstairs to stare at my inbox until I receive an admission letter. Wish me luck!" I said dropping my dishes in the sink and running back upstairs.
