Callux sat alone in his dimly lit apartment, a sense of disbelief washing over him as he carefully unfolded the letter that had arrived unexpectedly in the mail. The handwriting was unmistakably Amelia's, and it filled him with a mix of emotions—confusion, sadness, and a lingering sense of betrayal.

With trembling hands, he began to read:

---

Dear Lux,

I hope this letter finds you well, though I doubt it will bring you any comfort. I am writing this letter because I owe you an explanation, and an apology.

First and foremost, I want you to know that what I did was never personal. It was never about hurting you or anyone else. It was about escaping a life that had become suffocating, about shedding the weight of greed and deceit that had consumed me.

I used your skills to steal hundreds of thousands from the company I worked for, and I manipulated you with the dream of running away together with the stolen money. I strung you along with promises of a future that I knew could never be. For that, I am deeply sorry.

I am not proud of the choices I made, and I know that my actions have hurt you, Olive, and Caitlyn. You were my dearest friends, and I betrayed your trust in the worst possible way.

I need you to know that my real name is not Amelia Kingsley. It is Seraphina.

Lux, I want you to remember that despite the lies and the pain, I care deeply about you. I care about Olive and Caitlyn too, and I hope that someday you can find it in your hearts to forgive me for the hurt I've caused.

I cannot change the past, but I can promise you that I am taking steps to make amends and to live a life of honesty and integrity. It's a long journey, and I don't know where it will lead me, but I hope that one day, we can all find some measure of peace.

With sincerest apologies and a heavy heart,

Seraphina.

Attached to the letter was a photo of Seraphina, doing one of those silly faces that he always teased her about. It was a reminder of the person she used to be, the person she still hopes to become again someday.

Callux stared at the photo attached to the letter, his emotions in turmoil. He couldn't help but smile fondly at the familiar silly face that had been a trademark of the woman he had cared for deeply. But the weight of the truth behind her actions left a brokenness that would take time to heal.

As he folded the letter back into its envelope, he couldn't help but wonder if Seraphina, the woman who had vanished into thin air, would ever find the redemption and new beginning she so desperately sought.
