RIVER WALKED DOWN the stairs with a heavy yawn, clearly showing the effects of her insomnia from the previous night. She and Marcus had spent a late night together, but things had gotten a bit weird between them. Their interactions had taken on a more intimate tone, marked by accidental touches and even some cuddling. Although they were both high and tired, it felt different from their usual friendly affection. River attributed it to the influence of the substances and their exhaustion, but she couldn't deny that it had stirred some complex feelings within her.

Entering the kitchen, River noticed Ginny and their mother engaged in a conversation about the "Sophomore sleepover," a school event that seemed to be the talk of the town.

"Sophomore sleepover, welcome to Pleasantville," Ginny remarked sarcastically.

Georgia, holding a sheet of paper, turned her attention to River. "Did you know about this?" she asked.

"Yeah, that's all anyone can talk about in our grade," River replied casually, helping herself to some waffles.

"Well, are you planning on going?" Georgia inquired, but before River could respond, Ginny intervened.

"Ellen's running it. You can give her the money for my ticket."

"Excuse me, miss, you have a job," Georgia retorted, exasperated, as she tossed the paper onto the kitchen island.

"I started today after school. I don't have any money yet," Ginny defended herself, and River nodded in agreement.

Georgia pondered for a moment before asking, "How much is it?"

"A hundred bucks," River muttered between bites.

Georgia was taken aback. "To spend the night in a school you already go to?"

Ginny shrugged, "You moved us to this white, rich-ass town. This is what they do here." River nodded and pointed her fork at Ginny in agreement, adding, "She's right, these people are weird."

Georgia couldn't help but agree with their assessment. "All night in high school? Sounds like a waste of a Saturday."

Ginny left for school, and Georgia continued her conversation with River. "So are you going to this thing?"
