Chapter 2 - Hidden secret

I don't deserve it" was what I found myself saying........

    "Why would you say that Clara? You deserve all the happiness in the world darling" mum tried her best to assure me "Mum, can we talk about this later? I'm going for an interview today and I don't want to get there late" I managed to come up with an excuse to avoid the discussion with her, even though I knew I still had more than 3 hours to get ready. "Okay dear. Maybe we'll talk later in the day" she said, patting me.
      Not long after I heard a ding, it's just 6am sharp. I really can't believe Mrs Grace came to our house so early. I made my way to the room to wake Roman, it's time to get ready for school. It's a new and fresh morning.
    "Good morning my baby boy" I kissed his forehead "Good morning mum! I've taken my bath already!" He sounded happy "That's great my boy!" I laughed giving him a thumbs up "I'm now a big boy" 
   "ofcourse, Big boy Rom!" I said playing with his hair.
       Roman attends one of the best and most expensive schools. The school is mainly for rich kids. I wanted Roman to belong so no one would be able to look down on him in future.

                    Roman's pov:
    I got down from my grandpa's old Benz and heading to my classroom, I came across one of the richest kids in school. Dawn Griffo is a cousin to Charles Griffo, who is the CEO of CDG group. She has only two friends, Bae and Anita.
    Dawn is a type that doesn't relate with people and sometimes is always moody. I bet she's easy going and for sure not a bully. I like her for her personality, even though being the richest kid in school, she doesn't boast about it.
      "Good morning" she said and I turned back to confirm whether she was actually talking to me. "Good morning Dawn" I replied after I was sure she was greeting me. "I heard from your classmates yesterday was your birthday?" She asked, raising one of her eyebrows '' yeah, sure. It was"
    "oh, happy belated birthday" she said and didn't wait for my reply before walking out "Thank you" I shouted after her while she only waved.
        I got to the classroom, found my seat beside Jane and the lecture started. Fews hours of lecture and it's time for a break. Jace, Jane and I rushed down to the cafeteria to get our meal quickly before the bullies came around. But unfortunately for me, we met them there.
  I walked past then unnoticed and was eating my lunch when they caught sight of me. Hell!!!
      "Roman!! Guess who is here everyone? The birthday boy!!" John shouted, getting everyone's attention and their gaze on me. All I could do was ignore and bury my head in my plate.
     You guys should have known that I'll be bullied in school for not meeting up with the standard, not because I wasn't brilliant but because my mum doesn't have a Ferrari or one of those expensive cars. I only ride to school in my grandparents old car. With me not having a dad worsen the situation.
        "I'm busy" I muttered the courage to reply back, I Know it's trouble ahead. "so?" He replied with a harsh voice, walked up to me and before I knew it, he poured my lunch away. I was really angry and decided to fight back " how dare you?!" I raised my voice at him for the first time. I looked into his eyes and I could see the burning anger.
     "Really? You want to fight back? Hun? Come on boy! You can beat me!" He said pushing me so hard
    "don't provoke me John '' I replied pointing a finger at him. . I also don't know where the courage was coming from but something told me to fight for myself.
     "Roman is now a big boy, old enough to shout back at me. I'm sure you know by now the consequences of your action" he said giving me a deadly stare.
    I got scared by the statement because my remaining days in highschool will be hell, and it's either I leave the school or probably get expelled.
      The thought of it scares me already and that propelled me to apologize "I'm sorry"  "now you know your place. But I'm not taking the sorry so easily" he sneered "kneel before me and apologize after cleaning my shoe" he laughed.
     "You are wicked!, He already apologize, haven't he?" Jane whisper irritated but John ignore her and kept his gaze on me.
       I knew that's the only way to prevent further trouble so I decided to oblige to his request. I was about to kneel when I heard a voice which sounded like Dawn's "Roman stop!" The voice thundered, a girl with long blonde hair and beautiful blue eyes walked out of a corner, it was Dawn! I stood up and looked at her surprised, I couldn't believe she's standing up for me.
      "Don't tell me you want to kneel before your fellow classmate?" She asked, looking at me and I felt a little bit embarrassed.
      "Dawn!What are you doing here?" John said trying to get Dawn's attention
    "what do you mean? I also came to witness an act of bully and trust me it sucks" Dawn hissed
    "it's not what you think Dawn, we were only communicating and he took it to another level" John said with a tone as if he's scared "John, I never asked you to explain anything to me." She replied without any expression
    "Okay, are you here to see him?" Jacob asked but was ignored. "I only came to inform you that I've given our friendship a rethink and I'm sure it's not possible for me to relate with someone who bullies people" she said, playing with her fingers "and I'll advise you to stay away from me if you don't want your dad's deal to be canceled. You should be aware it's going to be a debt for your family" she smiles and walks away.
       "John should have known his place" Jane whispers
    "you're right" Bae replied "I'm sure his dad won't go easy on him today." She continued "why?" I asked curious "I guess you guys don't know John's father wants him to get engaged to Dawn and I doubt Dawn is ever agreeing to that" she made her last reply and walks away not to allow any other question.
    "Dawn just saved your ass bro" Jace said, getting my attention "of course and I'll love to repay her" I whispered sincerely.
              
                         Clara's pov:
       I got to the location of the company one hour before the appropriate time. I stood in front of a 48 story building with a big CDG group inscription. I adjusted my blue blazer and walked in. I met the receptionist and she showed me where to sit before the commencement of the interview.
        In less than 30 minutes, I was called and I entered the interview room. When I entered, I met five people seated; two females and three male. One of the females looks as if she's in her 40's and the other one should be my age mate. One of the male was actually facing the wall and the other two looked like the directors just by looking at them.
    "My name is Clara Alexander" I introduced myself, immediately the guy facing the wall turned to look at me. His brownish eyes meet mine.

                    Charles pov:
     "My name is Clara Alexander" a sweet voice Said audibly behind me. I turned back to look at her then I saw a beautiful girl wearing a white office trouser with black suspender and blue blazer. I looked at her more intensely then noticed she did very minimal makeup unlike other ladies who applied to be my assistant, she still looked stunning.
       She seems nervous but still has confidence in her and I think I like her already. I hope she has brains, because I ain't hiring her if she doesn't show her skill.
     "Sit" I ordered her when I noticed she had been standing since she entered. I looked at her CV and I know she's more than qualified for the job. I was really interested in conducting the interview for her, even though I had ignored the others that entered before her.
   "Miss Clara, why should we hire you?" I said looking straight into her eyes.
       "You will hire me because I can promise you that I'll do my best and give everything to my work. I would not give a single Chance to you to get disappointed with hiring me. I can prove to you that I'm more than worthy for this job because I've been working since I was 18" she said fiercely.
   The last statement she uttered shocked me, she's still young and has 10 years work experience? How come? I guess she must have been working to make ends meet, which means she is from the low class. Who cares….  At least she has a motive to work hard.
    "You are hired" I know she's more than happy cos she just got a high paying job within a twinkle of an eye.
     I stood up immediately and picked up the intercom "send the rest away, the interview is over" I found my way out of the room.

                       Clara's pov:
     Omg!! Is this a dream? I can't believe I got the job when about 500 people applied!! I was so happy that I didn't notice the young guy walking out of everyone. I can sense walking with him won't be easy, he's got some rude behavior.
      "Congratulations miss Clara, I'm looking forward to working with you" the girl around her late 20's walked up to me "by the way, I'm Chloe" she stretched her hand to shake mine.
   "Tomorrow 8:30 sharp with the ceo's coffee"
      I got home after a tour around the company to break the news to my family. I entered and met Dad and Roman in the sitting room, mum was making dinner. I changed and offered to join her which she declined with the excuse she'll soon be done. In no time, we had dinner and when everyone was seated, I decided to break the news to them.
    "Guess what?" I said looking at their expressions "what happened?" Dad said, still engrossed in the newspaper he's holding,
    "you said you were going for an interview today?" Mum suddenly remembered "how was it?" 
    "I got the job mum!!" "Our  standard of living will soon rise" I said and they were all happy.
      Finally, Dad looked up "I know you'll do great Clara, I'm proud of you" "this cause for a celebration" he added
     Roman ran to the kitchen and came back with a bottle of fruit juice and four glass cups. We made a toast then everyone was ready to go to bed and get ready for the next day…
      The following morning, I got to work as early as possible. I was still admiring the office when the CEO barged in "you're late!" I was still confused "and where is my coffee?" He added.
    "I'll get it sir" I replied and walked away. I can't believe he said I'm late when I got to work at 8:00 and if he needed a coffee, he could have gotten one on his way to his office. I got to the cafeteria and ordered a coffee with less sugar and a lot of milk as it was stated in the guideline.
     One my way, I bumped into another employee. I apologized and walked past him "Clara Dayton?" I heard from behind, I was shocked thinking someone knew my history because he just called my birth name. I became scared because I had hidden the fact that I've given birth to a son even after knowing that the job was strictly for the singles.
    "hello? How may I help you?" I whispered, almost dropping the cup of hot coffee I was holding….
      What's going to happen next? Will she lose the job she tried hard to get? Omg!!!! First day at work and there's a problem ahead……
