Sam and Colby knew it was only a matter of time before the crew and the bandmates started asking questions. Sam hadn't had those marks on his face a day before, so of course there were questions. Sam said he had tripped while walking and simply laughed it off to make it as convincing as possible. He followed Colby to his dressing room backstage and shut the door behind him.
"We should tell them what's going on," said Sam.
" Everyone is already stressed as it is, I'm not putting this on them too," said Colby. " I'll just write the song and it will be done and over with."
" You'll never have it done in time," said Sam. " Between the award shows, the talk shows, the tour."
" I'll make it work," said Colby.
" Do you ever stop?" asked Sam.
" I can't," said Colby.
Sam cupped Colby's cheek with his hand. "Not even for me?" he asked. Colby said nothing.
" You're stressed, Colby," said Sam. " Everyone else may not be able to see it, but I do. I'm here Colby, just let me in. I don't want you getting burnt out."
" I'll be fine, I promise," said Colby. He quickly kissed Sam on the cheek. " I'll see you after the show." He then hurried out the door of his dressing room to the stage.
Song 4: Sam
Sam is left alone in Colby's dressing room. Everything around him is drowned out as he begins to sing. Sam wants Colby to know he doesn't have to do it all. He doesn't need to lose himself trying to please everyone else. Sam wants this but he doesn't want Colby to let all this ruin them and what they have. He wants Colby to know that he's there, and that he will help Colby get through if Colby will let him.
Sam paces around Colby's dressing room as he sings. Towards the middle of the song, he makes his way out into the stage area. He is still singing, watching Colby perform from the wings. His boyfriend glances at him for only a second and then continues focusing on the performance. Sam walks away from the stage and continues singing as he walks towards an isolated part of the venue. He knows his singing is drowned out by the show but he hopes in some way that Colby can hear him.
Colby had managed to get through the show, despite everything that was happening. He would be lying if he said he wasn't happy when the show finally ended. Colby looked around for Sam, confused after not seeing his boyfriend in the usual place he was to meet him after the show.
"Where's Sam?" asked Colby.
" He left early," said Selena. " He said he had somewhere to be."
" You let him go alone?" said Colby.
" He said he'd be fine, just to tell you to check your dressing room," said Selena.
Colby hurriedly made his way to his dressing room. He threw open the door and desperately looked around, seeing the tiny sheet of paper on the table.
"Meet me at this address!" -Sam <3
Colby asked the limo to drop him off at the address that Sam had left. He recognized it from the photos he had seen. It was a Voodoo Nightclub. A rooftop lounge in Vegas. It was after hours so Colby didn't know what Sam was hoping he would do until security let him in and told him to take the elevator to the roof.
When Colby stepped out, the whole roof was lit with fairy lights. There was a singular table in the middle, prepared with cutlery and candles and Sam was there to greet him.
" What's this?" asked Colby.
" A break," said Sam. He walked over to Colby and took his hands and pulled him towards the table. "No talk shows, no tour and no songwriting, just us. Don't think about any of it, just...live."
The dinner that Sam and Colby had was immaculate. Once they were finished, they stood together, looking out at the Vegas Skyline. Colby had his arms wrapped gently around Sam's waist.
" I wanna live here someday," said Sam.
" I think we can manage that," said Colby. He gently kissed Sam on his cheek. " Thank you for this. I didn't realize how much I needed it."
"Of course," said Sam.
Colby let go of Sam and stepped back to admire him. Sam caught him gazing and smiled at him.
" What?" asked Sam.
Song 5: Sam and Colby.
This is a duet between both of them. Colby is verse 1 and Sam is verse 2.
Colby pulls Sam in close as he starts singing, touching their foreheads together and looking into Sam's eyes as he caresses Sam's cheek with his hand and brushes his hair out of his face.
Colby then pulls Sam in and spins him around several times, dancing around the rooftop with him. Keeping Sam close, savoring the moment. Colby stops several times just to admire Sam, dipping Sam in his arms before repeating these actions.
As the second chorus ends,Sam begins singing. Sam caresses Colby back as he is dipped in his boyfriend's arms. Colby then pulls him upright and he leads Colby towards the stairs leading up to a higher platform, he leans against the railing of the stairs as Colby's lips brush against his. Sam leads him up to the very top and looks out over the barrier at the city lights. He turns around as Colby pulls him in close, their bodies touching and Sam sings directly to him, draping his arms over Colby and interlocking them behind his neck. Colby lifts Sam into the air, spinning him around and dancing over to the leather couch. Colby sets him down on the couch, leaning in to try and kiss him.
As the next chorus ends, Sam and Colby both start singing to each other as they look deep in each other's eyes. Sam is still layed on the couch, with Colby leaning over him. As the beat picks up again, they both stand up. They both sing and dance across the floor, under the strobe lights, never letting each other go. They kiss as the song ends.
Colby pulled away and looked into Sam's eyes. " You're amazing," he said. " This was amazing, but I've got a song to write."
Sam laughed. " You're not supposed to be thinking about that," said Sam.
" I know," said Colby. "And before, I didn't think I could do it, but now I know I can. It doesn't feel so forced anymore."
" Just promise me something," said Sam.
" Anything," said Colby.
" Write from the heart," said Sam. " Don't write something for approval, or praise. You've got nothing to prove. Be genuine, write about how you truly feel, and let me be by your side through all of it."
" I wouldn't have it any other way," said Colby.
