The rest of the ceremony was a blur.
Her ring finger felt heavy with the band that now dressed it. The metal was cold and had carved initials in it, as well as a beautiful white jewel. Yorei came to the realization that her ring was made extremely similar to her mothers.
She refused to look at it after that.
She was led to the table and sat quietly. She didn't look up from her lap, even when her husband and colleagues would pause their conversation to look at her. Guest after guest would come to greet the married pair, and while her husband smiled and tried to make conversation, she just nodded along.
It all felt the same.
"Oh, congratulations young one!"
"I remember my wedding, I was a bit older than you—"
"Oh, how you've grown dear!"
"You are truly a Fujita woman."
Her hand hand twitched at the familiar voice, she looked up to see not only her mother, but her father as well. She noticed her father, no, Kito frowned when the man she married was nowhere in sight, before meeting his daughters eyes.
Hiromi, who leaned on her husband's arm, spoke next. "After the ceremony ends, your husband will be taking you to his own island. Where you will live together. All of your belongings will be transferred to his boat when the ceremony ends."
Yorei blinked at her mother. "His own island?" She asked softly. She paused at how small her voice was, she sounded just as tired as she felt.
"Yes," this time it was her father speaking. The old man had a bitter expression on his face as always, and seemed to furrow his brows more at the sight of his daughter. "And you listen to me, girl. You will do as this man says. You will keep your mouth shut, and follow everything he wishes. I did not sacrifice everything for you to mess this opportunity up."
Yorei stared at him blankly, gripping her skirt. Everything he sacrificed? When all he did was whisper a few sweet words and sign some paperwork? The man spoke as if he was the one giving his life away, for an evil name that should have died out long ago.
Was she worth so little that her actions weren't even acknowledged as a sacrifice? Did they believe she was blessed to be chosen for this situation? That she should be grateful?
Yorei licked her lips, the red paint having dried out a while ago. "You have no idea—"
"Mr. Fujita, Mrs. Fujita, it's nice to finally see you." It seemed the girl's husband had finally taken notice of her parents' presence as he appeared with a grin. "How have you been?"
