The air is different since the last time Reyna's been in Everett-Linde. It is charged with anticipation, with the constant electric field Neon—Tala's chosen call sign—carries with her, with Killjoy's eagerness and high hopes. Even Sage, reluctant she had been about involving a civilian, was curious to see where this would go. Brimstone and Viper had deemed that the teleporter project was important enough to involve a civilian, anyhow.
And Reyna? The voices bother her less now when there were always little 'soul' orbs at hand, willingly provided by Sage and her soothing whispers. She stands aside, leaning against the wall of the large, vacuum-like room that holds the Alpha-Omega teleporter, watching Neon's every fidget and the flicker of hesitation that crosses her face every once in a while. Perhaps she's beginning to second guess her choices — Reyna's gone through her fair share of that.
"Okay," Killjoy begins, happiness spilling from her every pore as she emerges from a tent sequestered to the side of the dark chamber. "Neon, we are going to start with a simple output test. Reyna, Sage, sorry, but please wait outside. Safety reasons, okay?"
Reyna nods minimally, and Sage joins her by the wall, watching the two younger agents disappear past the flaps.
The instant the pair go in, there's a series of yelled Tagalog curses, some frenzied noises from Killjoy, and a noteworthy irritating drawl of a voice that Reyna has come to dread hearing. She doesn't care what sort of contract Chamber has with Brimstone, she doesn't trust him for a second.
The commotion continues for a few moments, while Reyna and Sage merely stand silently, side by side, waiting for the moment that Neon would dash out in a flash of electric blue, possibly crying.
It never comes, unexpectedly enough.
Light flares from the tent instead, snaps of angry electricity, followed by Killjoy's enthused exclamations.
This teleporter, should Neon have the ability to supply it with the energy they need...
"I wonder how far this technology can take us," Reyna muses, brows furrowed, though it was more sarcastic than inquisitive. It is curious to see how far they could rely on...means like this, however, though the consequences, no matter how Reyna looks at it, will certainly be detrimental, irreversible. Brimming with hatred she might be, the Earth is still hers to protect, as long as Lucia and the children she cares for remain.
Sage purses her lips at her tone, eyes never straying from the flashes and bursts of light from the tent. "It will open up a new world. Perhaps more. And that will mean bloodshed, violence. The fighting...it'll never stop." She crosses her arms, her frown deepening. "Eventually, it'll be unclear if we actually are the heroes."
"Long enough to be the villain?"
"It's a possible outcome."
"That does not matter now, does it?" Reyna lets a little teeth show. "Mistakes have been made. We have Omega to deal with, now. Kingdom is still around, so all the Radianite problems come to us, don't they?"
A graceful nod from Sage, though it's hesitant. "One step at a time."
Reyna's smile grows gently. An agreement — this is a first for them both, when they have both been at loggerheads in most conversations of opinion. Their problems are many, and they just have to deal with each as they come their way.
"Promise me," Sage says a little stronger, and Reyna grows serious. "Promise me that if I ever..."
"You won't."
Sage's head snaps up, her brown eyes wide.
"You have a kind heart," Reyna mumbles, turning away. She has long been unable to blush, but there is still a heat that rises from the very core of her body, leaves tingles in her chest, hands and feet. "Kingdom is, and always will be, our one true enemy."
