"Agr ye larki ba-kirdaar nhi to phr mein apne khuda ki kasm kha kr kehta hoon dunya ki koi biwi ki maa ba-kirdaar nahi. Saari dunya bh aa kr agr iske khilaaf gawahi de, mein tbb bh yehi baat kahunga."

She stood in front of the opened window, staring at the sky basking in the glory of shining stars. She closed her eyes feeling the gentle breeze on her face leaving behind cooling effect. Her eyes glistening with tears gazed at the sky; it had never felt this beautiful before. She didn't remember the last time she looked at the sky and found it so generous, so vast and so giving.

"Khirad," He called her and this time listening her name felt different too. Khirad turned to look at him. He was wiping his face ladened with tears, his eyes bloodshot red, the wound on his forehead fresh and untended, and lips quivered. He was approaching her, but she had nothing to give him. Her barren heart could no longer carry the burden of love, she was incapable of loving someone else. He was silent but his figure as trembling. He opened his mouth once, and then twice to say something but words wouldn't come. He pressed his lips, forcing them to not convulse but just like his heart, his body betrayed him.

Khirad looked at him, her eyes threatening to break and her resolve weakening bit by bit. She continued staring him silenty, he was going to put her through another difficult test and she feared both would fail in it. She didn't have it in her anymore, to forgive him, to let go and simply move on.

And suddenly, within blink of an eye, Ashar Hussain was on his knees with a loud sob.

"Meray paas apnni safai mein kehne kay liye kuch bh nahi. Jo mera gunah hai wo muhabbat ki adalat mein qaabil e maafi nahi ho skta. Muhabbat krne walay mujh jese saffak aur sang dil nahi hotay Khirad. Muhabbat krne walay mujh jese hrrgiz nhi hotay. Tum mujhay kabhie bh maaf mtt krna Khirad, lekin srf hareem kay liye, hamari beti kay liye mujhay aik baar phr qubool kr lo..."

His voice croaked with each word as he spoke slowly with remorse and fear. Sitting in front of her on his knees, his face unable to meet her gaze was intently looking down. While speaking, he enjoined both of his palms in front of her, this time begging her. He was going to touch her feet and right in that moment Khirad felt as if someone had squeezed her heart under their feet. Her heart, the one she claimed had gone barren sinked and she struggled for air. Seeing him on his knees with his pleading hands was the final straw for her already weakening resolve. Tired and shaken, she fell on the ground joining him, and immediately opened his hands that were still pleading her. She curled her fingers around his, and the next moment she was crying on his chest, uncontrollably, vehemently, sobbing and weeping the pain she carried in her heart all these years.

He was asking her to never love her, to never forgive him. How was it possible when she couldn't see him so weak, so vulnerable in front of her. The love she assumed no longer existed between them seemed to have procured out of nowhere, right there.

"Mein thakk gayi hoon Ashar akele ldd ldd kr, tanha darr darr krr jeetay jeetay. "

Ashar cradled her face in his hands, and wiped her tears while his fell on her face. Both of them were exhausted of their long, lonely journeys that left them so weak and parched.
