"Here we go, by the end of today, four girls and four boys will be selected for the State team" The announcers said over the speakers."She's good" Marlon says as one of the contestants for the surf were up for the shot. "Hmm" Ari, absently, agreed as he watch the girls surf. "It's an unforgiving arena" The announcer says; "Each competitor only gets two waves. Best score counts".
Sadly, the new surfer crashed and burned when she didn't make her last wave as well as she hoped. "And just like that, a simple mistake will cost you big time" The other announcer stated. "Come on, Bodhi!" Marlon called out. "Bit crazy having America back, hey?" He questioned Ari. "Yeah. Nice and distracting on the biggest day of the year" Ari responded.
"Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Just..." Marlon hit the side of Ari's leg; "—Shame you got with Wren".
"Oi!" Ari called out. "Just saying" Marlon shrugs. "Me and Summer? Nah, that never would have worked" Ari says. "Ay. This team's gonna be all Shorehaven, baby" Manu said as he walked up beside Ari, along with Poppy. "Let's go!" Manu called out.
"Hey, Poppy said you might be State team coach" Ari spoke up; "Is that rumour or true-mour?".
"Well, selectors are considering it. So, fingers crossed, baby" Manu says, happily. "Fingers crossed" Ari hummed. "I hope you get it, bro. Then you can make Poppy captain again" Marlon said. "Ay! Sometimes nepotism is the smart choice" Poppy points out to her boys.
"Yeah, no" A dude from behind the crew says, causing Poppy to turn her head. "I think we all know who's gonna be captain, Pops" Griff Temple, Poppy's ex, stated as he watched her turn around. "Keep dreaming, Griffy" Poppy says to her before turning back around to see Bodhi surf. The siren blares and they waited to see who was next.
"Alright, let's go!" Ari called out.
"Let's go, Bodhi!" Poppy cheered.
"Here we go, here we go, here we go, here we go!" Manu says. Bodhi had no remorse for the others as she was currently destroying them with her moves out on the waves. "One more, one more, one more!" Manu grins as they all watched for Bodhi's final move to happen. Poppy let's out a sigh of relief as she watched Bodhi finish off her wave with ease like it was nothing to her.
"And that puts Mercer in second place overall, but still plenty more surfing to come" The announcer said.
"We've got a few new faces on the Victorian circuit this year" They continued as the boys were up next to surf. "Hungry for a spot and ready to shake things up". "Here goes Bax Radic in green. Showing great power and creativity" The announcers says as the pink haired boy takes his wave.
"Last year's State reps, like Tommy Ahmed, had better be on their A game" They stated as this comp continues with excitement.
"Come on, did you not watch the clips?" Summer questions one of the selectors.
She and Pandora were both trying to convince him to give her the spot she applied for in the Comp.
"I was surfing crappy breaks!" Summer said. "Is that not worth a couple of bonus points?" Pandora asked as they walked toward his table. "We saw the clips, alright?" The man said. "Your standard's not good enough. I'm sorry" He said. "Not good enough?" Pandora scoffed. "Give me a chance. Let me show you how good I am!" Summer begged.
"Decision's made" The older man said.
"She's gonna be a worldwide name someday! You're making a mistake by not giving her a chance" Pandora says with a huff as she crosses her arms.
"Let's go, Dory" Summer says, pushing her forward to leave. "I'm not done talking yet" Pandora said. "Keep dreaming, kids" The man said as he placed on his floppy hat. "Babe, come on!" Summer tugged on her arm as they finally walked away.
"You have a horrible taste in fashion, by the way!" Dory called out; "That hat looks ridiculous on you".
"My dog can pull that off a hundred times better than you!" She stated. "Oh my god!" Summer laughs. The both stopped their paced in walking and looked out to the wave pool. Pandora sighed and looked down at Summer. "So what are you gonna do?" She asked. "I have an idea..." Summer answered, still looking out at the water.
"Do you think it's gonna work?" Pandora asked.
"Only one way to find out" Summer twisted her lips to the side and looked up at the girl who stood 5'11 to her 5'5.
"You in?" Summer asked. "With you? Always" Dory smiled as she turned her body to Summer's. "But we could always just ditch this and do something else, you know?" Pandora stepped forward and batted her lashes. "Maybe, but where's the fun in that if we didn't complete this challenge?" Summer says. "Challenge you say?" Pandora raised her eyebrows.
Summer nodded before she chuckled.
Pandora held a soft smile on her lips as the sun's rays aimed in her direction. The light made it seems like she was glowing in Summer's eyes. The gaze was broken when Summer felt someone's ball hitting the side of her foot. She kicked it back towards the energetic kid and glanced back up at Pandora before clearing her throat. She turned her head back towards the wave pool and takes a breather.
Summer goes to set her plan into motion once she walked away from Pandora.
"Come on, we gotta go find Ari!" Summer said.
"Do we really have to?" Pandora whines as she trailed behind Summer.
