"Hey mom, I'm home!" I yelled this up to my mother, because I knew she was upstairs probably working in her office.
See while Donte's father was really well off and we now lived in this big fancy house, she still wanted to contribute - that's just the kind of person she is. So she took up writing and joined it with her phenomenal cooking skills and wrote a cook book about healthy living. Kind of ironic seeing as how I - her own daughter - never even ate a vegetable in my life. In fact, I'm pretty sure I'm allergic to the the things.
Okay that's a lie, I'm only allergic to nuts but whatever. I heard her yell down a faint 'okay' to me and glided myself to our huge refrigerator.
Snack time.
I walked back over to our living room, where there's a huge flat screen t.v on the wall and slump myself on our white leather chair. If my mother even saw me eating here she would go ballistic. I'm not even kidding last month she grounded Donte for two weeks after he spilled a drop of water on it.
A. Drop. Of. Water.
Oh well as Kayla would say 'You Only Live Once!" - or maybe she'd shout out something along the lines of ' You Only Live Once Bitches!' Those have always been her favourite set of words after all.
I'm already half way through on a pudding cup when Donte steps through the front door. He sends me a quick panicked look when he takes in my comfortable state in front of the open loading Netflix icon, and abruptly closes the door behind him.
"Hey Haze, I - uh.. could you go upstairs?" He whispers out and I don't miss the desperate look he sends me when there's banging on our door. Just then I hear a male voice yell out.
"Hey what the fuck man?"
My eyes widen when I realize that he's brought home his friends and I hurriedly jump up from my seat. This cannot be happening. It's not that we don't want people knowing we're related, it's more along the lines of me hating attention and - well you saw what just one wink from one of these guys caused. Imagine being related to one of them. Which I am. The only person who knows beside us, is Kayla - she basically knows everything about me.
"Why didn't you tell me you we're bringing those idiots home with you? " I snap at my step-brother after I realize that I now have to give up my usual evening plans and lock myself up in my room until they leave.
More banging continues on our front door, and I almost laugh at the very diverse vocabulary one of the boys are using to curse Donte out - almost. But I don't, because they suck and I hate them. Childish I know, but you try giving up your Netflix marathon just so four hormonal teenage boys can play video games.
"I'm sorry, I'll make it up to you I promise," Donte rushes out and sends me a grateful smile when I roll my eyes and run up the stairs to my room - far away from his.
So much for Netflix and gossip girl.

Four hours.
It's been four hours since these boys have decided to intrude on family time and dear I say, decide to stay for dinner. Dinner that I will not be joining, seeing as that I'm not even suppose to know Donte, let alone be related to the guy. My mom just thinks I've come down with the stomach flu or something along those lines. At least, that's what I heard Donte tell her when she tried to step into my room two hours ago.
Obviously my step-brother doesn't know me as much as I think he did, because he should have at least brought me something to eat - seeing as it's his fault I'm stuck up here. But he's so naïve it's not even funny. So instead of sitting around doing nothing - I'm actually checking my Instagram - I decide to open up my Facebook app and at least TRY and be social for once.
Just as I'm scrolling through my popping new feed - please note my sarcasm - I get a
Friend Request from the last person I'd want to be friends with.Asher Winters.
I hit the decline button as fast as I eat a box of pizza - which is really fucking fast - and immediately close the app. There is no way I'm accepting that friend request, I do not need anymore drama. I love my attention free life, where no one cares if I'm carrying books to class or not. He can suck it.
My phone pings with a message from an unknown number and I open it.
UNKNOWN: Come to my party tomorrow night!
I scrunch my up my eyebrows and answer back thee person who just invited me to party.
ME: Who is this? And I don't do parties.
I send my reply, mentally patting myself on the back because of my rather cool reply. 'I don't do parties', if that doesn't give off mysterious vibes, I don't know what will. I don't receive an immediate reply and give up on waiting on one. Once I hear the front door close and I peep through my window to see the boy's cars driving away, I run downstairs to get something to eat. I need food. Like Now.
I'm already halfway on my dinner that my mom saved for me when I get the reply I swear I wasn't waiting for. My phone just so happened to me right beside me. I swear.
UNKNOWN: I dare you, Sunshine.
Sunshine. Oh I've heard that name before.
I look up to find my step-brother leaning over the counter-top with a pout on his face, and a box of pizza in his hands. His peace offering. I grin up at him and quickly type back my answer.
"Netflix and Gossip Girl?"
I nod at Donte and we both make our way over to the living room. This why I love my brother, instead of going out - like I know he planned to - he's sitting beside me and watching Gossip Girl while we both devour a pizza and laugh at random things together. You can't choose your family, but I'm glad my mom chose his Dad.
I glance down at my phone, displaying my reply and smile at myself. I could never pass up a good dare.
Me: Challenge accepted, asshole.
